Hope you don't mind me starting this...I was impatient Welcome!
Cool! Thanks! I am still hanging on. I have been getting a lot of BH, but she seems to be pretty comfortable where she is. I have alot of fluid, so she actually turned sideways yesterday. I think she is back head down now. She likes to hang out with her back to my left front, which I guess is a pretty good position for labor. We are planning to give birth at the m/w center again. It is a bit more complicated, since we now have 5 kids, one of whom has complex medical needs, so we can't just leave the 13-year-old in charge while we go off to have a baby. We do have a backup person ready to come when we go into labor. I hope it works out. She lives about 1/2 hour away, and it is another 1/2 hour to the birthing center. My 2nd baby came in 1 1/2 hours from first waking up with contractions to pushing him out. I am a little nervous that we will deliver this one in the car, but I also know that if the baby comes that quickly, there is almost never anything wrong. I guess we will see.
Worst case scenario, could you leave the 13yo in charge of SOME and take the ones that can't be left with you? I know it's not ideal, but my SIL had her 3rd after only making it to the hospital with 17 minutes to spare...and yes, her two toddlers had to be dragged along (not the plan!) and some nurses kept an eye on them while she was busy having their sister
Or have the backup kid-watcher meet you at the hospital to take the needier kids home, if you really have to speed off...?
Welcome to your lodge!
If it comes down to it, maybe a neighbor would keep an eye on them for the half hour it will take your sitter to get there? I think almost anyone could handle half an hour of anything, especially with the 13yo around to advise on things. Also talk to Emily and ask her to give you some notice, maybe your water breaks but contractions don't start right away, or contractions start slowly, because you want her to have a good birth, not in the car.
Welcome to your lodge! I hope everything works out with the child minding (sorry, I don't have any better advice than what's already been given).
We don't mind leaving the little ones with the 12 and 13 year olds. It is the medically complex child that is the problem. He is in a wheelchair, and we are giving birth at a birthing center. It is NOT handicap accessible, so taking him is not an option. And most of our friends do not feel comfortable watching him because he requires specialized care. He has a trach and a feeding tube and gets medications every 4 hours. At night, it's not an issue, but during the day, his aide is not allowed to give meds or do trach care.
welcome to your lodge deb! I'm glad leigh started it since I, with all good intentions, offered and then proceeded to be nowhere near my computer for 2 days! I hope you find a solution for your son. how far away is your birth center? maybe you'll go into labor early at night and be back my morning!
Maybe we will have a July 4 baby Although there doesn't seem to be any indication.
We had friends over for Independence Day, and they divvied up four of our kids for the night. So we just have Isaiah to worry about. He goes to sleep at 8 pm and has a nurse that comes in at 10. It would be a good night to go into labor
I hope everything falls into place with childcare and you getting to the birth center when the time comes.
Today would be a good day to have a baby. Not feeling a whole lot of signs that she is ready to come today. She feels like she is getting pretty big. My first was born right around now and was 8 lb. 13 oz. This pregnancy has been pretty similar to that one (less nausea, more weight gain). So I would not be surprised if she is a pretty good sized baby. However, I also have a lot of fluid, so she continues to turn around in the womb. She was sideways for a little bit last night. I wonder if that inhibits labor at all.
haha, you sound like me at the end of my pregnancy...today is always the best day to have a baby.
Hope she doesn't make you wait until tomorrow.
I'm sure positioning affects labor...if she's not putting any pressure on your cervix, you probably have some time yet.
What the heck is up with a non-accessible birth center? Silly. Hope it ends up being nothing to worry about in the end...
I have been feeling crampy all day and (TMI) my system seems to be clearing itself out, so I guess that's a good sign.
Hello and welcome to your lodge! Your last post sounds like your body is gearing up! Hope she decides to come soon. I hope the timing and everything works out with your other kiddos too!
I have been having contractions about 10 minutes apart. They are only about 30 seconds long, but they're starting to get stronger. Going to call the m/w soon.
Whohoo! Looks like something is starting up!
Still hanging on at every 10 minutes almost 8 hours later.
Update: I am still home. Contractions seem to have fizzled out long enough to eat and take a nap. Not sure if they will start up again.
Aww, sorry the contractions fizzled. Hopefully they start back up soon.
I had a night of contractions that fizzled out on Wed night and they started back up on Thursday night but got stronger by early Friday and she was born a few hours later. Hope yours come back soon and you have a baby!
How are you feeling today?
I've had a few random contractions throughout the day. A couple of them were pretty strong, but then nothing after. I was so sure I'd have the baby by now.
BTW, you need to change your ticker
Emily, time to move out! I hope it isn't as hot and muggy where your family lives. The M/W center must be air conditioned. I bet Cherish can't wait to meet you!
Cherish is very excited.
Welcome to your lodge!!! I hope Emily arrives at night so you have less to worry about with Isaiah!
Just checking in. Still pg! I did a little research, and I think I may have a tight pelvic floor. I found a couple things on spinning babies that I tried this morning. They supposedly work much more effectively if you are in labor, but I thought I'd try just to see what would happen. I felt an immediate difference (looseness). I haven't had any contractions since then, so I don't know if they will be any more effective than they have been over the last 3 days, but I will let you know.
Ooh, link to those if it turns out to work for you
If there's a lot of fluid allowing her roam around too much, you might try binding your belly once you get her into a good position. Just take something long like a Moby Wrap or fold up a twin bedsheet lengthwise, and wrap it tightly around your belly to help keep her from shifting out of place. You'll want at least two times around your belly, tight but not so much you get light-headed or lose circulation in your legs. If she's floating up, wrap around your upper belly; if your belly is sagging and letting her drift outward, then wrap around the bottom to help lift & support it.
Hey sweetie! I know how frustrating it can be to keep thinking that today might be the day. I attended a birth on Thurs night (my moving day!!) after a week of on and off labor. But the good news was the birth was quick and relatively easy. In your case, I hope like Stacey said that you get some warning time so you can make the necessary arrangements and get to the birth center on time to settle in and have a nice birth!
Hang in there!!!
Thanks, Ladies for all the support. I'm glad to have a lodge. My birth board pretty much fizzled out. There are only a few of us left, and there haven't been any new posts in days. It's sad.
I'm still hanging in there. Caught between wanting her to come sooner vs. later and not wanting her to come too quickly. Our life is pretty hectic right now too. All the kids are home from school except Isaiah, who has 1/2 day summer school. We had to spend all afternoon yesterday getting his feeding tube replaced, and then it came out this morning, so we are going to have to go back today At least Children's Hospital is only a few blocks from the m/w center, so maybe I could get 2 birds with one stone
The techniques I tried yesterday didn't start labor, but they did help the hip pain, and it felt like my pelvis was more open afterward. I figured it couldn't hurt, and maybe it will help labor to go more easily when and if ( ) it ever happens.
Glad you're feeling better, at least! I have no doubt that having everything in a good position will help things along when the time comes. Hang in there...
I went to the midwife yesterday, and the baby is engaged, but still very high, and I'm not dilated at all. I think the stretches I did helped to get her head engaged, at least, but I need some contractions to start moving her down into position. I told the mw that I hoped she would come by next Friday, because the childcare situation would be much easier while Isaiah's still in school. She said that when I come in next Wednesday (my due date), if I am still pg, it would not be unreasonable to consider coming in and trying to induce naturally. I guess we are just going to hang out and wait and see what happens. I really don't think I will make it past this weekend, but you never know. I didn't think I'd make it past last weekend. lol.
What does she mean by "induce naturally"...like, membrane stripping or more than that? Yay for engagement, at least!
She mentioned pumping. Maybe stripping too. I don't know what else they would do. I don't think stripping would be an immediate thing. They might consider doing that at my visit. She couldn't do it at this appointment because I wasn't dilated at all yet.
How are you doing Deb?
Still hanging in there Deb?
thinking of you... ((hugs))
Still here. I thought for sure I'd have her by now. I keep having contractions. On Friday, I had some pretty strong ones, but they never became regular. I'm ready to have her.
I bet you are!!!
I know those last days are torture...hugs! She's coming soon--this annoying waiting period is about to be a distant memory, no matter what.
:bighug: LOL, I'm ready for you to have her, too!
Are you sure she's in a good position? A lot of times the start-and-stop thing is because baby isn't in a good position. Check www.spinningbabies.com If so, then have you tried the belly binding when the contractions start? Your uterus might just need a little support to get things started.
As far as I can tell, she is in a good position. Head is engaged, but still pretty high. Her back is usually in the front left. Her head was not engaged when I was having regular contractions every 10 minutes.
come on Emily! time to meet your family outside of mommy's belly!!!
just read that mercury is in retrograde until the 20th... a dear MW friend of mine (who attended DD's birth) feels very strongly that she's seen a lot of women who should be ready to give birth have stalled labors until mercury gets back in line... just sharing!
Interesting! The next time it happens is 41 weeks for me, so I certainly hope baby has come out by then!
Still here. Yesterday, I had contractions every 5 minutes for 12 hours, and they were stronger than last time, but didn't do a whole lot. I went to the m/w to get checked, and was still high, fairly thick, an 1-2 cm. So frustrated.
Ugh...long prelabor is such a drag on your patience, energy, and emotions! You don't have a ticker...remind me where you are at this point?
I didn't have room for a ticker without taking out something else. My due date is today (7/17). My DH stayed home from work today. We are both really nervous about him being so far away. With all this practice labor, we are afraid that when the real thing comes, it will be fast. My DS2 came in about 1 1/2 hours from first contraction to last push. DS3 took longer, because he was OP, so I had 6 hours of labor, with 2 of them being pushing. If he had been OA, like this one, I think it would have been way faster.
Happy due date! That history would make me very nervous too...I had to drag DD1 out into this world kicking and screaming at 41+1 and 24+ hours of labor so the concept of being nervous about a baby falling out on a moment's notice is very foreign to me
Hope she comes and ends the suspense for you soon!
Ugh, I'm sorry you're dealing with that. You're obviously concerned about Isaiah's care and your DH getting there in time, and baby is in a good position, so I wonder if maybe your mind is messing with your body? If Mercury getting lined up doesn't work, then maybe Hypnobabies' "Come OUT baby!" script will? You can download it for $16.95.
hang in there Deb! I hope she comes today!!!
