I finally broke down and answered questions today from my mom about our plans to homebirth. I should have known she'd be cool about it but honestly sometimes she's really hard to anticipate. She was completely on my side after I got done explaining to her just how safe I actually will be with a midwife, probably much safer than even in the hospital. I think it really helps that since we moved 8 months ago we are within a few blocks of the local hospital, not my hospital but one I would trust to save my life. It was really nice to have her support. She's still scared every time I give birth just because I'm a VBAC but she also knows me having a RCS isn't the answer.

DH and I just took the two little ones to Sams (about an hour truck ride away, ugh!) and picked up a big swing set/play yard for the kids. I'm so excited, probably as much as DS to get it set up. Here is the one we bought. I can't wait to get it put up so the kids have something to play on outside. We have a couple of outside slides but they're too small for the kids and they get bored on them pretty easily. We only live a couple blocks from a nice park but the temps have just been too much for me to get out in for any extended time this year.

And in other good news today, my birth pool arrived!!!! I got this one from Amazon after reading lots of reviews about it as a birth pool. DH is going to set it up next week to take it on a trial run before it's go time. EEEEEPPPPPPP!!!!! So exciting!!! My mw said I need to make it to 37 weeks in order for her to attend me, and according to her calculations that is Monday but she did say if it's 1 or 2 days early that would be workable as well so tomorrow is 2 days early so I'm getting very excited :D

I think opening up on the home birth situation with your Mom must be a big big relief. Not to sneeze at the great swing set/playhouse or pool either. Everything is really taking shape! I'm excited for you too!

so glad your mom took it well! Sometimes we build things up in our heads so much that we get nervous about the situations we create on our own, when in reality, the actual situation isn't so bad. I do that all the time.

So exciting about your pool arriving!! Post some pics when you get it all set up! :D

DS's birth

DH and I started TTC shortly after we were married. It took 4 years to finally get pregnant. We went through a lot getting there but in the end it all worked out. I was with a local dr and was trying for a VBAC. I knew about VBACing but not quite enough. I knew when my dr told me I really should just schedule a RCS because my risk of rupture was between 7 and 10% that he was full of crap. Finally around 30ish weeks I realized he had no intentions of letting me VBAC so I searched for a new dr. I was able to find one about 35 minutes away at a different hospital (a nicer one!). By the time I finally got my dr's office to send my records and set up my first appt I was 34 weeks. Had a few appts and then at 38 weeks my new dr said the baby was getting really big, supposedly 9lb 2oz already and he would not let me go past 39 weeks, it was either induction or RCS. I was overwhelmed, not completely surprised either because my first was 9lb 7oz and they get bigger, right?! :roll: So, in I went at 39 weeks for my induction. Pitocin induction started on Friday morning. Around 6pm after contracting all day long I was not dilated at all, nothing. I was sent home and told to come back Sunday night. Sunday I just knew I shouldn't go back, didn't want to go back but also didn't want to go in for a RCS. I fought myself all day long but it never occurred to me to say no or not show up, it honestly never did. Went back Sunday evening, got Cervadil (no, I did not know the risks at that time), slept fitfully that night and started Pitocin Monday morning. Contracted hard core all day long, right on schedule, well, their schedule anyway. It was horrible, much much worse than the Pitocin only contractions from DD1's birth. As afraid of the epidural as I was I was begging for one. I got a spinal, it wore off after 45 minutes, got another one and it lasted about 25 minutes, got the anesthesiologist in and he had a very hard time getting my epidural in. He stuck me over and over and over trying to get it in, thankfully after about a dozen sticks he finally got it. It was great in that it took the pain away but I hated it, absolutely hated not being able to feel my legs but could see them being moved but the pain was just too much. I started pushing around 3pm and pushed for around 3 hours, I got him close but he would not get down under my pelvic bone and there was no amount of pushing I could do to get him there. The OB that was on call at the time was in the same office as my OB. He told me to make the call, I could continue to push or tell him if I wanted a c/s. I quit, I wanted the c/s. Went in for the c/s and while it wasn't how I had envisioned this birth it wasn't a bad c/s as far as they go. The dr talked to me the whole time, the anesthesiologist really paid attention to me and was able to knock the nausea before it got too bad. I recovered much faster from that c/s than my first, not great but better. I was okay, not happy with it but okay with it. DS was perfectly beautiful and amazing and was a champion nurser and continued to be a champion nurser for 11 months! I was beyond happy to finally have our 2nd baby and he was amazing :) He weighed in at 8lb 7oz, not the 10lbs they expected!!

Holy cow that's a nice play set! I feel so bad for Aiden because he's not getting much outside time either - it's been upper 90s with 90% humidity for way too long. :(

Nice birth pool and swing set! How exciting for your kids to have that to play on and for you to get your pool...and also that your mom took the news well and is supporting you.

I'm glad you were able to talk to your mom about your homebirth! Thanks for sharing DS's birth story, I don't think I had read it before!

I'm so happy for you that your mom took it all so well! I bet that was a huge relief for you!

That swing set is awesome! And that pool will be great because it'll make a great pool for your kids and the new baby this summer and next summer!!

That's what I'm hoping too :) I just hope they don't think they're going to get it set up in the house for them LOL.

I called my OB's office this morning to get the results of my GBS swab that was done a week and a half ago. They can't find it, can find no record of it being done. GRRR!!!! They were going to talk to my dr about it and get back to me so we'll see but I'd imagine if it isn't in my records or file they won't have much luck. The nurse made sure to tell me that I wouldn't be charged twice for it. That's not even my concern at this point. I'm 37 weeks, a week later than I was when I had my last child so I'm anxious to get the results so they don't have to treat me as unknown again, it was such a PITA. If I have to transfer to the hospital I'd MUCH prefer not to deal with the abx and extended stay required by a + or unknown result. So frustrating. Not like, crap on my whole day upsetting but just frustrating.
