i dont like getting checked b/c the information is so useless. wherever you are at during the check doesnt have any bearing on how long it will be until your baby is born! I really hope you're feeling better! (and maybe even holding little emily!)

I'll give a few details. I don't have time to write up the full birth story at the moment. After 3 episodes of false labor lasting 12 hours apiece, on Thursday, July 18, I finally had real labor, lasting a whopping total of 3 hours. It was fast and furious. Before labor, I was at 1 cm and 20% effaced, and by the time I arrived, I was 4-5 cm and 70%. Within an hour of arriving, it was time to push. The labor up to then was fast but manageable. The pushing was another story. It came on so hard that it wiped me out. Emily made her appearance safely, weighing in at a respectable 7 lb. 13 oz, 20.5 inches long. She is a very good baby, likes to comfort herself by sucking her fingers, but also loves to nurse. I had some hemorrhaging right after the birth due to a piece of membrane that didn't come out right away, so they sent me home with a drug to cause contractions and prevent further hemorrhaging. I am almost done with the regimen, but between that and the very vigorous nursing, I've been in considerable pain. I got my dr. to prescribe some Tylenol 3, so that helps take the edge off. My nipples are really sore, though, because she wants to nurse all the time. I am pretty wiped out, but I am hoping that I will be feeling much better in a day or two. On the up side, I only had a small tear, which is a big deal considering how fast she came and the fact that my other 3 births involved 3-4 degree tears and/or episiotomies. So yay for small favors! And I have a gorgeous baby who is worth all of the trouble and then some.

Congratulations and WTTW Emily!! She's precious!! Fast labor can be intense but I think it's a blessing to be over quickly too.

Yay for only a small tear. I hope the pain you're having subsides quickly.
