The town I used to live in had crazy day care wait lists, one lady I worked with ut her name down when she was 12 weeks pregnant, her daughter had turned one by the time they moved away and still no spot had come up. Another lady had twins, she also put her name down really early, they were two before anywhere offered her two spaces, so yeah I hear you on wait lists.

I say go ahead and get the membranes stripped! It never worked for me, but it can't hurt to try. Also, it's not that much more uncomfortable than a regular cervix check. I was 11 days late with #3, and we tried tons - stripped membranes, sex, nipple stimulation....no dice. I hope you have better luck!

Okay, here was my 40+ week experience: I got my membranes stripped on 40+1, 40+3, and 40+6. There was barely any change, maybe I went from like a 0 to a 2cm dilation over that whole week. I started black cohosh at 40+1, but it just gave me BH that would fade out in a couple of hours. I did A TON of walking...it was hot (July in AZ!) so I walked malls and the campus library for the a/c, and listened to hypnobirthing affirmations on my iPod while I walked. So basically...nothing really did much. However, when I went in for my strip at 40+6, since I was going to risk out of the birth center that night at midnight, she said I could try adding blue cohosh alternating with the black. She did the strip (it was like 10:00am) and then we went to the store and got some, and I took it. Then we went to the mall to go for a walk. By 12:00, my contractions were strong and regular enough that I felt like we should go home. That did turn out to be the beginning of real labor (although she wasn't actually born until 3:10 the next day...but I got in to the BC under the wire!) So...I think the blue cohosh helped. It helped again in labor by taking me from stuck at 6cm for hoooours to complete with a tiny lip in 1.5 hours! So I'm a fan.

I don't think the strip did any harm, but it didn't really work for me. So, I wouldn't discourage it, but don't get too excited about its potential...I think you have to be pretty close to ready anyway for it to help. I would definitely NOT do castor oil unless it was a last resort. I did almost everything else (DTD, EPO, etc.) but it didn't really do much. The cohosh was the only thing I saw a clear and direct result from.

Yeah I did pumping/blue/black cohosh with my second because we wanted the NMW to be available for me. I did it two different times, pumping and then taking tinctures of cohosh and it did nothing. I also tried castor oil and that did nothing too.
But I know someone who did the pumping thing and went into labor right afterward but I think it's more of a kick start.
I would try the membrane strip and walking, sex, then the cohoshes/pumping, then castor oil as a last resort.

I do agree that ANY of it is a kick start, not an induction. Take it all as "encouragement" for your body, and nothing more. Honestly I think being relaxed will be your very best bet

    XP from April.

So had my appointtment today. BP was great, his heartbeat is great. He measures 39 weeks. I am 100% effaced, still just dilated a fingertip, so they couldn't sweep my membranes.

Then I went to my sono....

Saw his precious face and he has a lot of hair and a double chin. On the sono his weight was 6.5lbs but told me it could be off by a pound either way, but for 41 weeks its a tad bit small...but me and my husband are small so its ok. But then the sonographer asked me "Are you planning to go natural." I said yes and asked why and she said "because his fluid is so low that I am guessing they will send you to the hospital right away."

So I met with my hippy midwife again who called the more medically minded midwife since she is on call. The medical midwife said her recommendation is to have me to go to the hospital tonight to get induced, but since his birth weight is on the low end, she would let me decide. I told the hippy midwife I really didn't want to be induced but I want what's best for my baby and she said that while my fluid is low, that I'm healthy and he looks healthy and should do fine until monday when they would recheck my fluid levels. If the fluid drops any lower I will likely be induced Monday. She said to rest and not walk and drink lots of water. So that's what I'm doing. I told work that I'm not coming in tomorrow and that I've officially started my maternity leave. So tomorrow, I will have a movie marathon or something. Maybe try pumping.

I hope it happens soon! Sorry they couldn't do a sweep for you. Very happy to hear you told work you are done and going to get rest. Hopefully a day of relaxing will be just what you need to let your body finish getting ready.
