Thanks ladies. I am having trouble sleeping tonight (It's almost 4am now) I've been finding myself waking up in the middle of the night and laying in bed trying to fall asleep for ages. I just decided I might as well come downstairs as I'm not sleeping. At this point I keep on thinking about the birth and also what life is going to be like with 3 young children.

Today a friend of mine threw a birth blessing ceremony for me. We had about 10 of my friends over to wish me well for the birth. There was a Henna artist so I got henna done on my belly (I will post a picture once I get it from my friend) Everyone was instructed to bring a bead special to them and then we made a big necklace out of it. I got to wear a flower crown and had my feet rubbed with essential oils by my doula. It was a lovely event where everyone got together to wish me well. We were all sent home with candles to light once I am in labour.

Just wanted to add the belly picture (pardon the awful stretch marks!)

I didn't realize you were having a homebirth!!! How very exciting!!!! Love the henna! How fun that you had a blessing. I did one for a friend of mine and it was a lot of fun. It was fun to see the different beads that people brought and the meaning they had. I also loved the lighting of the candles when my friend went into labor.

So why did you decide to do a homebirth this time around? Will your kids be present at the birth?

Love it...just beautiful! We did the bead thing too and my DD loved inspecting her "mojo" during diaper changes.

Yeah, we decide on a homebirth because we thought it would be more peaceful and much calmer. Also, my last hospital birth the nurses did not listen to my wishes and when Rheneas arrived they didn't put him right on my chest, they took him away to be cleaned up and weighed, despite no medical problem and my request beforehand. I was so disappointed in it. I also was annoyed by all the other women in triage who were loud complainers and it was quite a distraction for me. And lastly, there's nothing like sleeping in your own bed and being in a familiar environment. It's a FB secret though, mostly because SIL is very concerned about us having a homebirth so my DH told her we weren't My last 2 pregnancies I also had BP problems that would have precluded me from having a home birth. Before this pregnancy I lost 40lbs and my BP was normal. I was much healthier going into this pregnancy. We also live 5 minutes from the hospital, so if there is an emergency we can get there quick. We trust our midwives to make appropriate decisions.

I don't want the kids to be here, unless they are sleeping. They are very needy and clingy right now, and I think TBH they would make things stressful for me. Our nextdoor neighbour who they are good friends with the kids has agreed to take them for the birth (and it's right next door, so they can see their new brother right after the birth)

Congrats to you on losing the weight, getting your BP under control, and having a plan that you're comfortable with! That is great. I think it's lovely when kids can be at a birth of a sibling, but, I'm not one to push it- and if it's something that will make you uncomfortable or stressed out, I think that is great that you're honoring yourself first. Go mamma! And with them being right next door, it couldn't be more perfect!

Sounds like great reasons for a homebirth! I am so so so excited for you!! Have someone take lots of pics!! I wondered why I missed that you were having a homebirth but I totally understand keeping it a fb secret when you have people who disapprove and will make rude comments. How great that the kids will be right next door so they can come back over when you are ready for them. I can understand not wanting them there especially if you think they will distract you.

I am just so darn excited for you!!!!!
