I hope it was a fluke and your 24 hr urine collection comes back great. I had to do one of those about 3 weeks ago and it suuuuper sucked but it came back great. (I was spilling a little bit of protein at all my appts and had a spike even though my BP was good all along.)

I think it is often hard for SO's to know there is nothing they can do to "solve" our physical problems when we are pregnant... :/

Had my nst yesterday. Baby was great. My BP was up (145/90) but it's NEVER that high at home so my OB was totally ok with it.

I finished my 24 urine collection this morning. It sucked!! They gave me one 3L jug and within 6 hours it was apparently that I was goign to need another jug! I put out over 6L in 24 hours!! OMG! I didnt drink more than normal and the OB nurse who did my nst said that was normal/healthy. That low output is much more suspicious in PIH. So thats good. But the stupid lab tech almost refused to give me another jug! Where would you like me to put this pee lady?!?!?!?

I'm worried about false positives in the test though. I am not entirely sure how they do this test, but if it just measures protein in general, there is going to be lots, because I seem to have alot of CM that sometimes just flows out with peeing. Plus (TMI coming up) I had a BM while taking one sample and a bit got in. I researched online and it says they can separate protein types so hopefuly they do that, since my sample will def have protein in it, but not necessarily from my urine! Anyone know??

I'm feeling pretty good today. Have damn sinus headaches though. Yuck. My pressure this am was 124/88 on my too small cuff (the only one I have) which usually means about 10 points lower with a proper one. As long as I am no higher than 140/95 with my cuff I know I'm ok. So that's good!!! I hope that protein was just a fluke. Its funny cause I did eat like crap the night before. I had like half a rich chocolate cake. OOPS!!

I'm sorry you had to endure the dreaded 24 hr urine collection. I betcha it was a cake-induced fluke and it will come back just fine.

I did a little googling and found that the Albustix test is a common urinalysis tool. Its just a dip stick test for determining the presence of proteins in urine. It doesn't discriminate between protein sources (mucus/fecal matter/urine) and can give false positives if left in the urine sample too long. I downloaded a paper on it and I'll send it to you on FB. Its a really old paper but it'll give you a starting point for discussion if your OB comes back and says you failed the test and that's the test they used. If that happens to be the case, I'd recommend redoing the 24 hr collection and trying really hard not to get "alternative" protein in there.

They might do a more sophisticated test and the test may have changed since that paper was published so its good to ask. You don't want to be induced because of a crappy false positive.

    Thanks for the articles Erin!

I'm more irritated at the lab now after doing some research. When I picked up the initial jug, she just said start in the morning (toss first pee) and finish next morning and keep that pee. Bring it in, keep refridgerated if possible. Sounded easy enough.

DH was the oen who picked up the other jug and they were talking about bloodwork and stuff. I thought they were crazy, so I looked up creatinine clearance (the other test on there) and apparently it's 24 urine AND bloodtest. Which I bet has to be done close after finishing the urine collection! But DS is sleeping now and sorry I'm not waking him. I finished the test at 730am and prob wont get there until 130pm. If these idiots would give the same directions to everyone i wouldnt have this problem. Mind you, they still didnt say to him for me to run in soon. But would make sense no??

I also hope that the little bits of pee i lost dont matter. Probably not tons int he grand scheme of over 6L i put out! This test would be so much easier if I were a man!

Pee collection sounds so easy till you have to do it. I wasn't given anything but this HUGE plastic container (it could hold over 2 gallons). I had to supply my own cup to pee into and then funnel it into the jug.
I hope the test comes back okay.

I'm glad you got through the 24 hour urine collection, they're such a PITA. I did two of them with DD and I just loved walking in with a jug of pee to turn in. I can't believe the lab lady didn't want to give you another jug. I hope it's all just a fluke. I had PIH symptoms with DD (high bp and a little protein in my urine) in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy, but it all fizzled out and everything came back normal. I hope the same happens for you.
