April Selection -- The Book Thief

It looked as though there was a great deal of interest in The Book Thief by Markus Zusak as a selection, so we will begin with it.

You might check your local library too, in the YA section, then you don't have to buy it. That is how I get most of my selection books, then If I like it I can always purchase it.

Do you have any older kids who might have this in their school library? Or have connections with a middle or high school library? I loan books to parents out of my library, so that might be an option.

Peace,
Julie

The chapters are very short. I think you might be surprised by how quickly it goes.

what's the timeline on this? Are there going to be questions/discussions? I don't know when I'll be able to get my hands on it.

We'll either do a chat or chat thread near the beginning of May

I'll post discussion questions a bit later this month -- probably next week when I'm on Spring Break

If we want to we can actually make this the April-May selection and push the others back one month. That way everyone has an oportunity to get their hands on it. Let me know if that is something you'd like.

No not really. I doubt the elementary school would have it and no older kids. Dont know any teachers or anything.

I finished last night, and I'm not even sure how to describe my feelings on this book.

I loved the way it was written/narrated by death. It was heartbreaking in parts of course, but I really just enjoyed the story. I hope all the rest of you enjoy it as much as I did.

I thought about trying to describe how I felt about the book a bit more and this is it.

I once read someone describing their favorite books, and they mentioned how when they saw those books on a shelf they just had to reach out and touch the book. I thought to myself that I completely understood the sentiment. There are several books that I think of so fondly that when I see them I reach to touch the cover, or pick them up to look at the art work, and just remember how much I enjoyed the book. The Book Thief will be one of those books for me.

My copy from the library is ready for pick up. I think I am going to set my current book aside and fit this one first.

Love this description...fits me, too.

I just picked this book up at my library but I have to read The Hundred Secret Senses sometime between now and Suday. I'll get to The Book Thief after I'm finished with that one!
