The Hunger Games

Okay, I realize I am probably WAY behind here, as usual. But I know many of you have read all 3, I'm just barley starting the 2nd book. And, can I just say they MAKE ME CRAZY!! LOL It's like I feel clostrophobic reading them b/c of how much power the Capitol have and how little anything the people of the Districts have. I don't know but it makes my heart pound reading it b/c I want them to be free from all of the crap so bad lol I swear I'm reading too much into this - but did anyone else feel that way? Annoyed & frustrated w/ how much power they have? ugh ugh ugh! I know it's what makes the book, but the tension is killin' me Lol  Okay, I got my vent out and now I have to get back to reading b/c I MUST know what happens next!! ROFL

Lol!! I can see where you're coming from for sure. Am waiting to get my hands on the third book, but have read the first two. It has given me nightmares, actually! Very very tense, definitely. But not so much predictable, I found, which I loved.

I just finished The Hunger Games on Wednesday this week. I went to Target today and bought the last two in the series. THG was unbelievably good. I found the ending very frustrating, with how Katniss pushed Peeta away after all they went through and all that she obviously feels for him. In such a bleak, dark world that they live in, wouldn't you want to hold on to something good and pure, like love? It makes me want to shake the stuffing out of her.

Actually, I was glad she did b/c I know she likes Gale and I really hope they get together. Peeta and her was a forced thing & I always felt sad for her about that, even though he's a sweet person & does love her.

I listened to THG and read Catching Fire. I'm now reading Mockingjay. In both of the first two I actually had to verbally vocalize my frustration/surprise to the book. Luckily I had my DD (she read them before me) who I could go straight to and vent/gab about it.

I really enjoy this series!

Do you think she'll come out with a 4th book, or does it end with book 3? And I so wish I had someone to talk to about the books lol Their SO good and SO involved, it's hard not to want to talk to someone about them as you read.

I read somewhere that she had pitched it as a 3 book series, and that it would be the final book.

I was able to get my Dh to listen to THG, and he liked it. He never reads, but I think he enjoyed the audio format. I need to get the other two on audio for him, so he can listen. He just won't take the time out of his day to sit down and pick up a book, but can find time to listen. I enjoyed getting to talk with him about the first.

It's definitely a trilogy. I have heard that many of the kids who loved the first two didn't like the last one as much, including my 15 year old son. Another librarian wondered if the plot/themes was/were a little too 'old' for middle schoolers to totally grasp.

I loved all three. I thought she kept a constant level of quality of writing and satisfying characterization throughout.

Peace,
Julie

My DH is really enjoying the series too. We are both looking forward to reading Mockingjay.

I don't think she likes Gale that way, though. I think it's more of a best friend kind of relationship for her, although it's more for him. I'm actually rooting for her and Peeta to end up together. I mean, Gale is cool and all, but no one but Peeta can understand all that she's gone through. Only he has suffered and endured as much as she has. I love the descriptions of them just holding each other because of the nightmares each one has. It's a special thing that neither one of them has those nightmares when they're together. I'm gathering from Katniss' reactions to the scenes of Peeta she's seeing on the TV that she really does LOVE him.

I'm only halfway through Mockingjay now, so I don't know whether she'll end up with Peeta, Gale or neither (please, not neither! That would be worse than Gale!!). But, my money's on Peeta.

Really? I dunno, I always took it as she liked Gale more Lol They are both really neat though, with good qualities who love her so I think no matter who she ends up with it would work out okay. I started Mockingjay a few days ago, only about a quarter of the way through.
