I'm so excited about this! My oldest son is 10 1/2 and has been an avid reader since he learned to read, and it came to me last night when he and I were at the book store that it would be fun for him to be part of a book club. I've been in a RL book club for 4 years and have gotten so much enjoyment out of it. He's very excited about it too. We're going to recruit kids from his class the first week of school and make the first selection the new HP book.
What a neat idea, Lisa!!!
Be sure and KUP on how it goes.
I've been looking for a real-life book club, but they all seem to be women who read nonstop chick lit. So I'm SOL, I guess.
There are so many excellent books out there for children. I can give you a huge list of recommendations if you'd like.
Have you ever checked out Shelfari? I know it isn't real life, but it seems like a great way to connect with other people who have similiar reading interests. If you haven't already, you should take a look.
If you do join up, I'm parrotheadmama. Feel free to add me to your friends list.
You should start your own book club! That's what a small group of friends and I did 4 years ago. It started out with just 4 or 5 of us, and just by word of mouth it's grown to around 15 people. We take turns choosing a book each month, and whomever makes the selection hosts the discussion. We have our discussions at each other's homes in the evenings and serve wine, snacks, etc. It's a fun time - I really look forward to my book club meetings every month!Originally Posted by rleigh
