Just wanted to give my take on it. I got about 130 pages into it and quit. It's not that it's not good . . . it's well-written and if it were to stand on its own, I think it would be a good read. Maybe my mistake was trying to read it directly after having read GWTW. I dunno . . . it kind of takes something away from GWTW, if that makes sense. I don't think it's a believable portrayal of Rhett Butler, and besides, I came to the conclusion that a big part of his appeal was his mystique in GWTW, kwim? So having all this background on him, getting inside his head, so to speak, I don't know, it just wasn't doing it for me, so I won't be finishing the book.
