I am also shocked with how many enjoyed the movie.

DH and I just laugh about her always heaving chest... attempt at a sexual response to Edward - but just felt awkward and bordered inappropriate.

The movie could have been done so much better. I know it would not be exactly like the book and I went thinking it wouldn't - but they really changed it so that it felt shallow and did not develop some very leading information. Like Carlisle. And they did not even introduce Voltury... the 3 men.

I know it is a film and they can only fit in so much - but when they had the opportunity they flubbed it. Like the onion Phases. Just done WRONG!

The acting was lacking too. I would have expected something similar to Lord of the rings or Van Helsenk or Harry Potter - but the bar did not come even close.

I was pleasantly surprised. We went to a 7:20 showing on Friday night. It was a sold out show, but unlike a lot of you, I didn't have the rabid fangirls, at least not right around us. So no screaming teenagers!

My biggest gripe with the movie, is that some of the characters and story weren't as developed as I would have liked to have seen, especially Jasper. If I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't have understood why he was always looking as though he was in pain and the weird soldier like stance, it would have just been bizarre. I was still displeased with the casting of Carlisle, but I have been since finding out who the cast was. I just picture Carlisle to be more distinguished and a tad older looking, than the actor. I know in the book he is quite young, but ... PF is just not my ideal actor, though I'm not sure who would be. I thought some of it was a bit hokey, particularly the whole tree climbing/flying thing. To the best of my recollection that was just something added, I don't remember that being a scene in the book, and it just didn't fit well to me. I wasn't super crazy with all the close-up face footage, maybe that's more my issue though, since I like my own personal space. My mom liked that.

Now for what I did really like. The humor was great! I loved Charlie, and Billy Black, and I enjoyed the scenes from the H.S. The kitchen scene was great. The whole dress shopping/boobs thing, so cute, especially with the prom tie-in at the end. Overall, I was really pleased with the adaptation. I knew going in that there was no way that the movie could fully do justice to the book. I think given the budget, etc. they did a good job. I'm hopeful that since New Moon has been given the green light and Twilight had such a great opening, that more money will be put toward the budget for NM. I think that will make a huge difference with the special effects. I still think the studio doesn't have a good understanding of the wide scope of who the audience is, and I think that might have had something to do with the direction Twilight took. It's a bit more MTV generation geared, than toward the whole audience, IMO. Hoefully, they'll have a bit better understanding of that now.

I actually wanted to go back and watch it, and I will be over the Thanksgiving weekend with a couple of friends who couldn't make it. I feel like I'll enjoy it more the second time around, since I won't be so busy making comparisons. My MIL did enjoy it more the second time around. Both SILs that saw it, enjoyed it. My mom liked it a lot, and my best friend, who hasn't read the books, was really surprised by how much she enjoyed it.

I too had set my expectaions very low so i was happy with it, may take a girl friend back to see it later.
I guess we where lucky as the teenagers in the place we went scremed very little. We all laughed at the stupid parts (the first scene in the science room i about died laughing).
Overall i was impressed and was happier witht he cast then i figured i would be. Of corse dh was happy with Rosalie something about the baseball outfit.

Now on to New Moon. If they dont get the painfull draw right for that movie it will kill it all for me. I need the draw done right or the rest could be done the same and it wowuldnt matter.

Did I completely miss the lines "Do I dazzle you .... Frequently."? I don't remember hearing that, and it is one of my favorites.

I liked it!!! We went to the 9:30 show and the manager actually came into the theater before the show to announce the "no screaming, talking and making noise rule". it was great!

All I could think of seeing Jasper was Edward Scissorhands. He looked and acted goofy just like him. At the beginning I was thining I was not going to like it. But I really enjoyed it. Robert Pattinson stole the show. I did not have high expecttions and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it and was as drawn in as I was.

I was pleasantly surprised. I did enjoy it. But, I too, went in with really low expectations. I also know there is NO way they could re-create the book. I think they did a good job. There were a few things I would change, but that's with any movie. I though RP did some bad acting in the beginning, but he grew on me by the end, and I was really happy with him. As for Jacob, , he looked horrible. That's not even a good word. I truly hope they do better with him in NM, b/c he plays a huge part. I really hope they make him look better. All and all, I was very pleased.

This was my exact thought! That's so funny! I wish they would have explained why he was acting like that though. You only knew if you read the book.

I think Jacob was GREAT! My husband is NW coast Native and I can tell you that the natives look just like Jacob... In fact, my little BIL looks almost exactly like him and my BIL is 21. Now Sam... he it the one that I was not expecting to look like that. For some reason I expected him not to look so old.

The Jacobs dad looked more like the Plains Indians. Not so much like the regional natives here that I have seen, but he still looked good.

Natives look more and more impressive as they get older. I know, I am growing older with one!

Wow, such varying opinions! I thought Jacob was perfect, his smile was heart-warming. I thought Jasper was adorable, and they did explain a little why he acted the way he did (when Bella was at their house and they did introductions).
My overall take is: the movie was exactly like the books- cheesy, flawed, over-hyped, and yet still surprisingly enjoyable.

Saw Twilight again today and enjoyed it a great deal. Some things that really bothered me the first time around seemed a little less glaringly obvious.

Still hated the whole tree climbing/flying thing. They could have left that out, and added the blood typing scene!

I have been thinking I need to see it again. I think my hormones are really off lately and I am very irritable. Maybe when I am in a better mood and know there will be no screaming teens around. LOL
