I am reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Quite enjoying it. I like the way it gives you a glimpse of life in China during the time when foot-binding was common - - although foot-binding is horrible!!!

oh footbinding sounds just so awful. I remember my dh talking about it when he read something, Shogun I think.

I am still reading the Robin Jones Gunn books. I said I would only read the one series because my sister wanted me to read it so much. I love it though and just keep buying more and more. I guess I will end up reading everything she has written :). My to-read list is so long, I really should not be adding more to it. lol

I'm reading a ton right now. 3 books left in the Lori Handeland Night creatures Novels, and just started her Phoenix Chronicles. The new LKH Anita Blake book just came out so I'm working on it too. I also have gotten into the Black Dagger Brotherhood Seires, I'm waiting for the 4th book to come in from the library.

I think you should read Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz. It is my favorite DK book ever and I recommend it to everyone who says "what should I read". It is bizarre and fun. I loved it!

OH Angie you are a genius! I am SO behind on my Koontz!!!

So, pray tell? What other kinds of books could a girl who LOVES horror (and Hunger Games, but NOT Twilight) find worthy? I know, kind of a tall order.. im not huge on romance. But I love horror-sci fi, fantasy and history with only a TOUCH of romance. LOL... I KNOW you have the answer!!!!!!!

I actually haven't read any of the books that come up in the "if you liked The Hunger Games" conversations. I do remember hearing about a series by Ally Condie. The first is called Matched ( linked to amazon). Also Divergent by Veronica Roth seems to be very popular with those who liked THG.

I'm not big on horror, although I seem to have read quite a bit of stuff that has a lot of blood lately. Do you like your sci fi mixed with a a bit of cheesy detective novel? The Dresden Files are pretty good if you can get thru the first book, which is REALLY cheesy! The Name of the Wind is really well written, but only 2 books so far in that series.

I'm not reading much at the moment...mostly poking around looking for my next obsession. Wink

If you liked the Hunger Games, what about a few other of they dystopian society trilogies out there? Divergent, mentioned above, was EXCELLENT, and the second book has just come out. There is also Wither, and Fever, the second one, is out. I enjoyed Wither, although I'm hoping it picks up a bit more in the third book. Still, I definitely plan to read it. Also, there's Delirium, which was good, but the second one, recently out, Pandemonium, was even better, and I cannot wait for the third! Finally, I also enjoyed Matched and the second in that one, Crossed. I believe the third one is due out in a few months.

THAT should give you lots to read! Oooooh, and one more book I think you'll adore, and it's nice and long, perfect for summer: A Discovery of Witches. The second one in that trilogy is due out soon. Everyone I know with tastes similar to yours LOVED it, and I ate it up. So that should get you started! Let me know what you think of them as you read them. Smile

The one you suggested!!! Life Expectancy.

And yes... Dean Koontz is truly, truly amazing. All his books are fast reads, but intense and perfect. You get all you need from them, and no fluff. I remember one book (heck If I can remember which one?) that scared me SO bad I threw it in the trash when I was done AHHAHA!!! Something about a small town and the Devils lair.. .anyway... JAAHAHA... yes he RULES>

I hope you enjoy it. It was the first one I read by him and I fell in love. It's not really like the others I have read. It's him, but has a little humor in it too. Loved it.

I started reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It's a new mystery. I'm enjoying it so far, curious to see where it goes.
