    Question Summer ideas

Anybody thinking of Summer holiday plans yet? LOL

Right now we're thinking of taking the kids to the Soo... it's a good 5 or 6 hour drive so we'd have to spend 2 nights there... we'd go to the bush plane museum and then take a lock tour/go across into the Soo, MI just to say we did LOL

But am also looking for other ideas if that turns out not to be feasible... anybody have any suggestions/recommendations that would be fun for a 10 and 6 year old but not break the bank? We don't want to do the zoo. Not too keen on the African Lion Safari or Canada's Wonderland for this year. We did Ontario Place last year and have done Black Creek Pioneer Village and Science North in the past few years. Niagara Falls is out because it's too $$$ and we're saving our airmiles to go in a few years.

ETA: Was just googling... has anybody been to Ste-Marie-Among-the-Hurons (Midland) and/or Discovery Harbour (Penetang)? What is it like? I've never been to either but those look interesting (and much cheaper than a trip to the Soo LOL) too.

I went to Midland in Jr high.... since that was almost 30 years ago I don't remember much. I think I liked it...

The metro Toronto Zoo is always cool, I know a big drive for you guys. Hockey Hall of Fame is awesome. CN Tower is expensive. Hmmm... guess I know the Toronto area the best.

I did St.MATH when I was a kid. Very fun and informative. If I remember right we didn't spend much time there, though. Maybe a few hours?

I know it's a LOOOONG drive for you, but Port Dover is a great place to spend the day (or a weekend, even).

We're heading out east this summer. Spending two weeks in Nova Scotia. Staying in Halifax, but making the trip up to Cape Breton and down to Yarmouth, too.

We've been to the zoo a few times... the kids love it but we were just there a couple years ago so don't want to do it again just yet

Most stuff is a big drive for us LOL But I have an aunt who lives in Orillia so often we stay at her place either while we're down or en route depending on where we go.

I'm pretty sure I went to SMaH when I was a kid but can't remember it for the life of me. My mom was big on road trips that were educational.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is cool and there's also the Ontario Science Centre here in Toronto. We were just there on Saturday. They have Imax movies and all sorts of neat stuff.

For us, it's not summer but we're going to meet DH in San Francisco in May and then in late July were heading out to Victoria to go to DH's uncle's cottage out there. We also have some friends who just moved to Victoria at the end of February so we are going to visit them as well. We rented a cottage last summer which was nice and I wouldn't mind doing again. DH might go to a board game convention in Michigan in August so while he's there Harris and I might do the cottage thing with my parents.

I went to SMAH when I was around your kids age and I liked it (from what I remember and looking at the pics). I don't have any plans for this summer, just camping and swimming. Road trips will be in a few year when Hunter is old enough to remember and enjoy it and not ruining it for us adults... lol!

I would like to go to a water park with Hunter this summer but there is none near where I live. Anyone knows a good one in Ontario?

A couple years ago we did Black Creek Pioneer Village and dd loved it... ds was a little young to really enjoy/understand it... he'd be 6 so he'd definitely be a good age to enjoy this... it seems a bit like Black Creek was with the old stuff to visit and hands-on stuff.

That's what happens when you live in places southern Ontarians have never heard of/can't spell/can't pronounced... you have to drive hours just to hit civilization (aka... ME!)
