    Default Target coming to Canada

Hi Ladies, I try to check in with this board but lately life has been busy. I tend to lurk more and have posted a few times on the Ontario board. But I'll try to check in more often and I'll post on the introduction thread so at least you know who the heck I am

Not sure if you Ladies know this already or if it will make you happy or not. But Target is coming to Canada

    see story here

personally I'm Happy. I love Target, I always go there when I go shopping south of the boarder (which hasn't been for a while) I think since Zellers will close anyways at least there will still be some jobs. I know it still means people will loose their jobs since they are not opening in all stores at least its not a complete shutdown of zellers and wont be happening until 2012/2013. Zellers is no longer a Canadian company it and the Bay were taken over years ago buy another American company.

I think their products are far better quality then Walmart and from what I hear they treat their employees better.

I'm very excited. They are having issues with their trade-marks though and my DH seemed to think they might have some difficulty there. (he's a lawyer in that area). Let's hope the cmopany holding the marks is just holding out for a bunch of money.

Never been in a Target store. We have a Zellers and it's junk. I hate going to Zellers stores... I find them dirty and the shelves are a mess with stuff just thrown around on them... and the employees (at least at ours) are slow and not overly helpful or pleasant So... if Target is better I likely won't be heartbroken if they take over our Zellers. I tend to go to Walmart anyway though since it's on the same side of town and in the mall/on the same lot as the grocery store I got to... so one-stop shopping pretty much LOL

Ditto all of this! lol. Except that I've been in Target and LOVE it!! I can't wait. It's a ways away, but I'm very eager to shop there. Also to see how WalMart tries to compete. We'll be looking at some good deals!!

I totally agree about Zellers. Ours is the same way, dirty, hard to find anything, not very good selection. It's quite a big store, it's in our mall, but it sucks.

I'd much rather go to WM, at least the employees are somewhat helpful, and everything is always where I know it's going to be. Plus, ours is currently undergoing renovations to become a Super WM, so yay!! We have a SWM about 40 mins. from here, but this one is about 10 mins. from me.

I've been to Target quite a few times as we live so close to the border, I didn't think that their stuff is quite as nice as WM, but then I wasn't really comparing stuff, price or otherwise.

I wonder what they will do with Zellers brand clothing, like Cherokee? Will it just become Target brand, or will they drop it altogether? Personally, I HATE Cherokee baby clothes. I had some when Sierra was little, and I found it shrunk horribly when washed, so bad that when she was like 6 mos. old I was given a 12 mo. sleepers, and once washed they were too small! And she was a peanut. I exchanged them, and lied about the fact that they'd been washed Whatever. Clothes shouldn't shrink that much.

Anyways, I probably still won't shop there if our Zellers changes. I'll stick with my SWM

Target is buying the site leases not the actual stores. Apparently they have been trying to get into Canada for a long time but have had no where to put the stores. I expect closer to closing there will be a big sale getting rid of all Zeller's stock.

I have not had the issues you ladies have had with Zellers. At the store by us the manager even gave my car a boost when it wouldnt start.

I'm with the girls here. All the Zellers around here are awful. The shelves are only half stocked and it's looked like it's been going out of business for AGES.

I love Target. I got the most awesome pair of flip flops last February at a Target in Florida. I loved the flip flops so much I totally wore them out.

my mom had just mentioned this the other day. man i remember when zellers was the best store ever, i worked there when walmart came in and everyday there was an update from management and pep talks that were meant to keep us (employees) on our toes to show the ppl that zellers was better than walmart. that really didn't last long, i hate shopping at zellers these days never been to target, should be interesting!
