    Default First day of Advent!

Just a reminder that today is the first day of Advent! The kids and I have set up our Advent wreath but can't seem to find our candles that I purchased some time ago (to avoid the battle of finding them at the last minute. *Argh!*)

Do you plan any activities as a family for the Advent season. Our family has decided we are going to focus on two separate but related tasks -- purging and giving. We are trying to focus our attention on how truly blessed that we are... despite having "wants" we recognize so many more are less fortunate. We determined that we were going to thoroughly work through the house, finding usable - good condition items that we could share with someone else in need.

Outside of that, we once again have family and friends in need of our prayers and support. Each week we are trying to reach out and do what we can to help ease their burden.

Wishing you all a blessed Advent season! I'd love to hear from you!

I hope you found those candles, Missy. My boys have been enjoying the advent calender this year.

Hoping you and yours have a Merry Christmas~

    Hi Julie!

I imagine that this is going to be a fun Christmas at your house this year! The kids are at that sweet age where everything is magical!

Never did find the candles. Sheesh. I *am* however making progress on clearing things out and we're staying on track with our goal for giving to others. I think it has started to click more with some of the younger ones even more this season.

Starting a new thread on some amazing news from today.

I've never found a great Advent calendar, but my parents always did a Jesse tree with us. Liturgical Year : Activities : Jesse Tree Instructions - Catholic Culture

Finally got a Nativity set this year. Well, one that is more kid friendly, anyway. DH has a fancy one his parents got him in Israel, but I don't trust the kids not to break it! Anyway, got the FP Little People Nativity set, and it's a big hit! The little one likes to line up the figures and count them, and the big one likes acting out the Christmas story with them.

That Fisher Price version is wonderful! Kids do so much better hands on with increasing their knowledge and understanding but ah.... cannot recall how many "injuries" our poor holy families have gone through. By Christmas Day it may seem more like a war zone nativity. LOL

We love the Jesse Tree! Thank you for sharing that link! I had lost where I had all those scriptures found. I found another version but this one is the one we preferred.

We got our tree up tonight -- on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Dh wanted blue lights in Mary's honor and to celebrate Christ's birth. (I was thrilled he put thought into it! LOL) With all the ornaments added it actually looks serene and peaceful... mixed with bright colorful spots throughout. Such is our life! HA!

Thanks for dropping in! Are you done with your holiday shopping? I still have so much to do!

Blue lights- how thoughtful! I'm impressed.

I don't know if those were the exact readings we used, but when I googled, that link seemed to explain it all well. We always just used a fallen tree branch as-is, though, rather than using any paint or glitter to make it pretty.

We have so many of the other Little People that a few have already wandered into the nativity scene. One caveboy who was originally part of a dinosaur set has become our grown-up John the Baptist. The kids love getting hands-on with it, and DD2 makes a beeline for it every morning when I first get her up.

DH and I dropped the kids off at their grandparents' last weekend and did a shopping blitz, and in the meantime I've ordered a few things online for DH. He's forbidden me from bringing in the mail this week, so I imagine he did the same thing, lol!

I am planning to take the girls shopping separately so they can pick out a gift for each other, but that's about it for holiday stuff. Now wrapping.. that's another story!

I'll hit full-term the day after Christmas, though, so at some point soon we'll need to buckle down and finish getting baby stuff ready!
