Weekly Prayer

OK, I've gathered all the prayers that I've posted since May so we can have them all in one place. Could someone (like Stacey or Rachel) sticky this for us, please? I'll add new prayers to this thread. Would you want me to let you know when I put a new prayer in the thread?

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us.Bless them and their familiesfor the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.Amen.

God of all goodness,Look with love on those who waitfor the safe return of their loved oneswho serve in the armed forces of their country. In faith and hope, we turn to you for comfort.Grant that we may trust in your mercyand send an angel to sustain us as we await their safe return. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

O God,by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on your departed veterans who gave theirlives in the service of their country.Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Sonthey may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdomand rejoice in you with your saints forever. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.

Hear us, Lord, and send your angel from heaven to visit and protect, to comfort and defend all who live in this house. Amen

Lord, may everything we do begin with your inspiration and continue with your help, so that all our prayers and works may begin in you and by you be happily ended. Amen.

Good St. Gerard, powerful intercessor before the throne of God, wonder-worker of our day, we call upon you and seek your aid. You know that this marriage has not as yet been blessed with a child and how much [husband’s name] and [wife’s name] desire this gift. Please present these fervent pleas to the Creator of life from whom all parenthood proceeds and beseech Him to bless this couple with a child whom they may raise as His child and heir of heaven. Amen.

Lord Jesus, grant that I and my spouse may have a true and understanding love for each other. Grant that we may both be filled with faith and trust. Give us the grace to live with each other in peace and harmony. May we always bear with one another's weaknesses
and grow from each other's strengths. Help us to forgive one another's failings and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness and the spirit of placing the well-being of one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together grow and mature with each passing year. Bring us both ever closer to You through our love for each other. Let our love grow to perfection. Amen.

Keep us, O God, from pettiness; let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with faultfinding and leave off self-seeking. May we put away all pretenses and meet each other, face to face, without self-pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous. Let us take time for all things; make us to grow calm, serene, gentle. Teach us to put in action our better impulses-straightforward and unafraid. Grant that we may realize it is the little things of life that create difficulties; that in the big things of life we are as one. Oh, Lord, let us not forget to be kind. Amen.

Lord, in every need let me come to You with humble trust saying, "Jesus, help me."
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations, Jesus, help me.
In hours of loneliness, weariness, and trials, Jesus, help me.
In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles, and sorrows, Jesus, help me.
When others fail me and Your grace alone can assist me, help me.
When I throw myself on Your tender love as a father and savior, Jesus, help me.
When my heart is cast down by failure at seeing no good come from my efforts, Jesus, help me.
When I feel impatient and my cross irritates me, Jesus, help me.
When I am ill and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely, Jesus, help me.
Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls, and shortcomings of every kind, Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Week of 7/27 - Prayer for Friendship

You have blessed us, O God, with the gift of friendship, the bonding of persons in a circle of love.
We thank you for such a blessing: for friends who love us, who share our sorrows, who laugh with us in celebration, who bear our pain, who need us as we need them, who weep as we weep, who hold us when words fail, and who give us the freedom to be ourselves.
Bless our friends with health, wholeness, life, and love.

Week of 8/3 - Prayer of Thanks for People

God of Love, I thank You for the people in my life who are easy to love. I thank You for my family and friends who understand my actions, who support me in my decisions, and whose presence can lift the burden of a thorny day.

Help me with those who are difficult to love. When they come at me with criticism and wild expectations, when they ignore me or try to bend me to their will, let me recognize their flaws and their angers. But then let me remember your attitude toward them, and lead me to see them in the light of Your love. Amen.

Week of 8/10 - For My Husband

Lord, in Jesus' name, I thank You for the gift of my husband. I know You handpicked him just for me. I ask You to encourage him and strengthen his spirit, soul, and body. Give him wisdom and insight concerning every decision that he has to make, both personally and professionally.

Reveal Yourself to him. Speak to him by Your Spirit and through Your Word. Give him a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Shower him with Your love. Give him Your peace, joy and strength regarding every aspect of his life.

Help him to be bold and confident in his faith. Send mentors and friends into his life who will offer godly encouragement and insight into his life and job.

Help me to be a spiritual, mental, and physical support to my husband. Let me be senstitive to his needs and be his best friend and greatest fan.

O Christ Jesus, when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give us the sense of Your presence, Your love, and Your strength.

we shall see Your hand, Your purpose, Your will through all things.

Week of 8/24 - Prayer for Teachers

Teacher's Prayer #1
God grant me wisdom, creativity and love. With wisdom, I may look to the future and see the effect that my teaching will have on these children and thus adapt my methods to fit the needs of each one. With creativity, I can prepare new and interesting projects that can challenge my students and expand their minds to set higher goals and dream loftier dreams. With love, I can praise my students for jobs well done and encourage them to get up and go when they fall.

Short Prayer to the Patron Saint of Teachers
Saint John Baptiste de La Salle, patron saint of all teachers, pray for me.

Blessed are you who sow peace and harmony in the staffroom, yours will be the joy of the Lord.

Blessed are you who plant seeds of hope in youthful hearts, for you will inherit the dawn.

Blessed are you who are sensitive to the cries of youth today, for they yearn for the coming of the Kingdom.

Blessed are you when you anguish now because your students are difficult, for one day they will thank you for your loving concern.

Blessed are you when efficiency is moderated by compassion and empathy, for the deeper secret of education is yours.

Blessed are you when you reach out to me in your students, for you will surely find me and rejoice.

Blessed are you who lead young people in the paths of justice and peace, for you will shine like stars for all eternity.

Prayer for My Child(ren)'s Teachers

Lord, I pray for my child(ren)'s school. I pray for the principal, the administrative staff, and all of the teachers. I ask You to encourage and strengthen their spirits, souls, and bodies. Draw them close to You.

I ask You to give the teachers at the school wisdom, insight, and direction to effectively and efficiently perform their duties. Give them understanding, patience, and discernment to relate to their students and to be a positive influence in their lives. Help them to see the potential in each student, and give them the ability to bring out the best in them. Help them to recognize and encourage the gifts and talents that You have placed within each student. Help them to balance instruction, correction and mercy. Help them to create a fun, exciting and stimulating atmosphere for learning.

Lord, help me to partner with the school and with the teachers to provide the best possible learning experience for my children. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Week of 8/31 - Time Management

Lord, the responsibilities and demands of my life seem overwhelming at times. Many days I feel as if my life is running me instead of me running it. Please help me in the selection and management of the right priorities for my life. Help me to not procrastinate but to be diligent to fulfill my responsibilities in a timely manner.

Lord, help me to set boundaries and not overcommit. Above all, help me to make sure I make time for You first. Help me to set my schedule so that prayer, worship, and Scripture study are a prominent part of my day.

Help me redeem the time to find ways to be more effective and efficient in my daily activities. Give me strength to say no to requests and activities that threaten to steal time from my higher priorities. If I start to slip out of my schedule or begin to neglect my priorities, then speak to my heart and prompt me to stay on track. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Week of 9/28 - Prayer of Thomas Merton

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore, will I trust in you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Week of 11/2 - Prayer for the President

Dear Father, in Jesus' name, I lift up our nation's president to You. I know that our leader's heart is in Your hand, so I ask You to guide the head of our nation in the way You would have him to go.

Give our president spiritual, physical, and mental strength to fulfill his responsibilities with excellence. Give him the courage to stand up for his convictions. Give him patience and peace to endure the pressures of his office.

Help him to be resolute and determined to do the right thing no matter how much pressure he feels from those who oppose him. Grant to our president wisdom and insight concerning every decision that he must make. Give him boldness to lead our nation with integrity and honor.

I pray that You would give our president discernment, understanding, and knowledge so that our nation may know stability, both internally and abroad.

I pray that You would surround our president with wise counsel, godly men and women of integrity who place Your agenda and the good of this nation above their own, people whose motives are pure, honest, and trustworthy.

I pray for our president's family. Encourage and stregthen their spirits, souls and bodies. Protect them from evil and harm. Help them to be supportive of the president, and give them the strength to deal with the pressures and demands of being the First Family.

I give thanks for our president according to Your Word, and thank You for working in and through his leadership so that we might lead peaceable lives in godliness and honesty. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

New Year Prayer

Holy Father,
God of our yesterdays, our today, and our tomorrows.
We praise You for Your unequaled greatness.
Thank You for the year behind us and for the year ahead.
Help us in Your new year, Father, to fret less and laugh more.
To teach our children to laugh by laughing with them.
To teach others to love by loving them.
Knowing, when Love came to the stable in Bethlehem, He came for us.
So that Love could be with us, and we could know You.
That we could share Love with others.
Help us, Father, to hear Your love song in every sunrise,
in the chriping of sparrows in our backyards,
in the stories of our old folks, and the fantasies of our children.
Help us to stop and listen to Your love songs,
so that we may know You better and better.
We rejoice in the world You loved into being.
Thank You for another new year and for new chances every day.
We pray for peace, for light, and for hope, that we might spread them to others.
Forgive us for falling short this past year.
We leave the irreparable past in your hands, and step out into the unknown new year knowing You will go with us.
We accept Your gift of a new year and we rejoice in what's ahead, depending on You to help us do exactly what You want..
I say it again, we rejoice!
In Jesus name,

Prayers for the Unemployed

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, You wanted all who are weary to come to You for support. Lord, I am worn out by my inability to find work.

Guide my steps to a righteous path; give me the patience to find opportunities with a future.
Calm my worries and fears as my financial responsibilities mount.
Strengthen my resolve; embolden my heart to open doors; open my eyes to see life beyond rejections.
Help me believe in me.

Let me realize other ways to bring about Your kingdom on earth.
Let me grow as a person that I may be worthy for Your greater glory.
In the name of the Father.

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.
You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.
You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.
