First off- yay to see new people over here!!! That makes my day. :) Welcome!
Aaand.... I'm off the TTC train officially for a while. I am SO BUMMED!! DH had an appointment with our Dr. today for his allergies so he asked about my MRI and such-
My back is really really screwed up. Worse than we originally thought. So bad that the doctor told DH that if I got pregnant and had a baby I would more than likely die or end up paralyzed. When DH told me I laughed because it sounded so absurd. Then DH looked at me like I lost my mind and told me he was serious. Oh my.
It feels so weird to go from trying so hard to get pregnant to fearing it.
So now I'm waiting to hear from the spinal surgeon. Hopefully it won't be too long.
The good news is our doctor told DH that he is committed to helping me figure out what's going on with the whole fertility thing and everything once my back is in order. I feel like he really cares about us and is super supportive.
So, that was a whole book to say that I won't be TTC for a while. :( But I will be sticking around, and starting next cycle I will be temping again so I'll have lots of info once we address this infertility issue.
I'm so sorry, Elizabeth :bigarmhug: I'm glad you have a good doctor who cares, at least. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait.
I commented on your thread in the April board. Sorry for the bad news. I hope its a speedy process and you are back to TTC soon.
Wow Elizabeth! So scary. I hope and pray that your surgery and recovery go very smoothly and QUICKLY.
I have to say, I do believe that things happen for a reason...and usually I try to avoid saying that to ANYONE suffering with infertility issues because generally it is an insensitive platitude and irritating. But, as frustrating and difficult as we both know the whole TTC process is when it takes so long and there are losses involved, if becoming pg really could have put your life at risk, it sounds like someone was looking out for you and your family. :bigarmhug:
Elizabeth, I am so sorry you are going through this. ((HUGS)) Have you heard from the spinal surgeon yet? I hope the surgery and recovery goes smoothly and you are back to ttc in no time. In the meantime, please take it easy and take care of yourself. I'm glad you have a doctor who is so committed to helping you with fertility issues. He sounds like a wonderful doctor.

Oh my gosh Elizabeth! I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. That's awful, and I imagine that if your back is that out of whack it has probably been painful for you as well. Keeping everything crossed that you have an easy and speedy recovery. Also, so glad to hear that your doctor is committed to helping you find answers.
May I ask what is wrong with your back? I have Spondylolisthesis... the vertebra just above my tail bone/pelvis is slid forward. I also have issues with my bones because of having OI type IV (also Known as brittle bone disease), but have NEVER heard a doctor tell anyone that they would die or be paralyzed from having a baby???
Thanks for the replies. Makes me feel loved. :) lol
I still haven't heard from the surgeon, though apparently I should any day now. That's the downfall of the Canadian health system- the wait times. I'm hoping for a miracle- my MRI wasn't even supposed to be until October but that got moved up! I'm trying to stay positive.
Jean- I agree with you. My mind went straight to my loss last year. I am keeping the faith that everything will fall into place like it should.
Kier- I wish I could give a better answer to your question, but since my husband talked to the doctor and I haven't yet (since my test results), I'll do my best with what I knew previously and what he's told me- I've had surgery before for a herniated disc that had slipped to the left causing complete loss of feeling and movement in my left leg. I've had chronic pain since then, but chalked it up to my misaligned pelvis (from a previous hip dislocation).
A year ago, my DD and I fell down an entire flight of stairs, and I landed really funny to keep myself from landing on her. Since then the pain has gotten worse and now I can barely walk or stand or sit up. So I went for my MRI and my one disc that I previously injured has completely crushed and is pressing on both nerve roots and my spinal cord. The three discs above are herniated.
Since I didn't talk to him myself when he made the baby comment I'm only assuming, but I have lordosis and my spine is twisted (in the lumbar area) and because of the pressure on my spine during labor (lordosis is when your spine curves unnaturally inward toward your abdomen so there's a higher amount of pressure) it could be bad. My back has been injured for so long I actually had complications after both my other births that were symptoms of nerve damage.
Oh- I'm so long winded! So honestly, the whole "you could die" seems completely ridiculous to me still and I'm not sure what his reasoning for saying that is without talking to him. My only guess is that pressure on the damaged area could cause permanent spinal cord damage?
Well, I will be keeping you in my thoughts for a quick turnaround time, and a speedy recovery. TTCing aside, I hate to hear that you are in so much pain. :bigarmhug:
Keep us posted.
