luteal phase

So I lied this isn't my first cycle charting..just my first cycle temping. Anyways. My last cycle I O'd on CD14 (only one positive opk plus O pain) and had a 14 day luteal phase, or so I thought...since I didn't temp. My cycles are regular, so regular that my cycles alternate between 27 and 29 days. Literally 27, 29, 27, 29, etc.

This cycle I O'd on CD17 and this should be a 27 day cycle, meaning AF is due tomorrow and making my luteal phase 10 days. I read that your luteal phase never changes. Is this true? I have had a couple of off cycles in my 17 years of menstruation...but they are rare. I will be interested to see if AF shows.

Anyone know why my luteal phase would be 4 days different from last month? Or do you think its possible I O'd 3 days after O pain last cycle?

I guess I will have to keep temping to find out if I have a short luteal phase.

Sorry so many questions.

Elizabeth,
Have you started or discontinued any medications? I haven't heard that your luteal phase never changes...but I can see that it is true in regards to me. I started taking royal jelly in the last couple months and my cycle as a whole has lengthened from 28-30 to now 32-34. My luteal phase is still about 14 days. So I O later than normal. The only thing I can think of for you is that you did something different?

I have read that you O 12-48 hours after your LH surge. I have also read that you luteal phase is consistent. I hope this helps you!

Thanks for responding ladies. I haven't changed anything. The only thing that could be throwing it off is a possible kidney infection or UTI. My doctor is perplexed though because my labs are showing up normal. I had more labs done yesterday. And she was concerned because I had a temperature of 100 degress. I'm starting to think this is one of those rare long cycles. Because AF was due yesterday, which would have made it a 10 day LP. But here I am 12dpo and AF is 2 days late. Unfortunately all BFNS!!! Boo!

Yep, luteal phases usually don't fluctuate much (maybe 1-2 days). Your follicular phase (pre-o) can fluctuate a lot. For a while my LP was consistently short (8-9 days) which isn't good for implantation, so I took vitamin B6 for a month. After that I consistently had LPs that were 12 days, maybe 13 every once in a while.

I, too, have been taking b6, but have not seen a change in my LP. Still taking though in hopes of it lengthening!

I read about b6...do you ladies tkae it with your prenatal? Or with another combo of vitamins?

I think I'm ok though because AF came and it was a 13 day LP, just one day shorter from the last cycle. I read b6 is good for LP's less than 10 days, right?

I've been taking B6 and B12 together in one pill. My LP is 9-10 days, and so far, no change. I'll probably stop taking it after this cycle if I don't notice a change.
