Question of the Day (WED June 6)

Do you think it's ridiculous to have graduation for any grade other than 12th grade or College? Yes, No, or Indifferent? Smile

I don't have a problem with it, but I do think it's kind of ridiculous for the most part. It's very cute for younger kids, of course (especially graduating from Pre-K or Preschool, not that I'm partial or anything ;)), but I think it would make more sense to just do a ceremony--minus the cap and gown/graduation--where the kids would still sing songs about what they learned, etc., followed by a big party or something.

I'm not a big fan out of making every change of level a "graduation". It becomes such a to-do! We have a "moving up" ceremony for our 5th graders. Not supposed to be a graduation, but the parents treat it like one anyway.

Jean - They have a ceremony for 5th graders moving up to 6th grade now, too? Wild. I'm sure that puts more on the teachers, too, right? Oh well, what can you do.

What got me was when they sent a note home a couple of months ago asking if we wanted our Pre-K'ers to have graduation pictures taken (and pay for them, of course). Pre-K graduation is one thing, but graduation pictures? As in, sitting still in a cap and gown--holding a scroll--posing for the camera.. pictures? For Preschoolers??? Aren't we going just a weee bit overboard, people? Lol
