thermometer time

Mine takes between 4-5 minutes to beep. Seems like a long time, especially that early in the am. Is this normal for a BBT? Or should I go get a new one?

Sometimes mine takes a really long time... it's supposed to be 3 minutes max, but I could swear it takes longer sometimes, though I've never timed it. Maybe 3 minutes just SEEMS like 5 minutes, LOL. If it continues to take that long every single day, then yes, I would think about a new one. It should only take 1-3 minutes. Don't get one that only beeps after a few seconds, though, they are not as accurate. I was using one like that and it was reading my temp a whole degree lower than it should have been. HTH Smile

When it is cooler out and the end of thermometer is SUPER cold in the morning, I'll put it in my mouth or hold it in my hand for a minute or so BEFORE I hit the button. I feel like the cold tip drops the temp of the spot in my mouth where I put it, and then it takes forever to read because the temp keeps creeping up as that spot comes up to the "real" temp. Just a thought.

Is it glass with a digital read out? that's interesting.

Haha... I totally do that, too. I guess it's one of those things like flipping your pillow over in the middle of the night because the other side is cooler. Smile

no but it's super easy to read. I don't have to squint or anything even with my glasses off. Here is a link to it on Amazon but i found it cheaper at walmart http://www.amazon.com/Geratherm-Mercury-Free-Oral-Thermometer/dp/B000M2NB6G/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1328539785&sr=8-7
