What Should I Be Seeing?
I've been randomly temping since after AF. It's consistently shown as 36.5. I'm due to O in a couple of days. What should I be seeing? Does it go up? Does it dip at some point? I believe I've read that it stays high after O if implantation has occurred... Is this correct? I just want some clarification as to what I should be seeing (in conjunction with OPKs).
Hi! Welcome to the charting board. :)
A typical chart would have lower temperatures pre-ovulation. Some women might have a dip in temps right before they ovulate, but some do not. What you are looking for is a thermal shift (versus a thermal spike) in your chart. Your temperature will normally jump up and stay high for a few days in a row. That's usually when you can confirm that you did in fact ovulate.
Temping isn't really useful in predicting ovulation as much as confirming ovulation after it's happened. That's where Cervical fluid and OPKs come into play. When you are fertile, your body produces fertile Cervical fluid (or mucus- CM) that is the same consistency as egg whites. So if you track your CM, you can get a good idea of when you are about to ovulate. When the CM dries up, that means you have probably just ovulated.
OPKs detect the LH surge that happens right before ovulation. When you get a positive opk, you can usually bet on ovulation taking place in the next 18-36 hours.
Ditto what Elizabeth said. :goodluck:
Opinions? ... I haven't been tracking temperature consistently - just random days when I think about it. It's usually around 36.5 (97.7) and this morning, CD26, it was 36.6 (97.88). What do you make of this? Does temperature increase before AF arrives?
Your temp will increase after ovulation, then go back down before AF. If you don't temp consistently, there's no way to tell which day you ovulated. Hope that helps :)

I definitely don't track temperature consistently... I have broken sleep many nights so it's really pointless for me to do this! I usually do it for fun just to see when I know I've had a really good sleep that night!
I'm curious: How long before AF do temperatures usually drop?
Temps drop significantly a day or so before AF shows up. There are exceptions sometimes, though. I've been known to have my temp go up slightly before AF showed, but overall my temps were lower than they had been a few days prior, if that makes sense. So many factors can affect our temps. Most of the time, though, my temp will drop the day before or day of AF.
