So I have been reading lots and hearing lots of things about this. I have read that doing more than 6 rounds of clomid in a row is dangerous. Has anyone been on Clmoid longer than 6cycles in a row? I am on my 5th Cycle at 250mg. My dr is willing to do 8 cycles in a row before I go to the RE. In Jan if I don't get pregnant this cycle she will go up to 300mg of Clomid but will not go any higher. What do you think about that? Anyone go higher than 300mg? Thank you so much ladies!
I have done 6 in a row, took a 6 month break and then did 5 more. All of these were done with just a regular OB/GYN. My Clomid days are over for a few reasons, first it doesn't work for me, and second because if you over use it, it will thin your lining. Which obviously would be counter-productive if you did get pregnant your little bean would have little to attach to. If I were you I would talk to your Dr. about that. Maybe tell him that your limit is 6 cycles and then you would like to be referred to the RE??? Best of luck!!
6-8 months in a row is the 'safe' zone for Clomid from what I have been told -- another over is not very safe, especially when you're at such a high dose. They don't go over 300mg as there is not much point to it, I was told, as your body will not preform any better than what it would at 300mg. There are talks about 300mg being prescribed as there are views that 250mg and 300mg does the same thing.
Most doctors will move from clomid to clomid w/ IUI if you're ovulating but not getting pregnant. If you're not ovulating they will then move onto injections.
It would be best, I think, to talk with your doctor and get referred to an RE.

I go to the Re Jan.18th and from what the ob can tell I am getting my period from being on clomid, estrogen and progesterone. So that is why my ob said the injections. My ob is awesome she is right on board next to me! Thank you ladies so much! Just need some input from others!
I took it longer than 6 times too and I even took it longer that the 5 days - I took it 7 days and I have a 5 month old DD to show for it... I just wanted to give you some hope and maybe ask to take it for 7 days instead of 5 maybe it will work for you too~
Wow 7 days? Maybe I should ask about that. I got all my paperwork in the mail for the RE. My insurance will cover everything as far as testing and stuff. For the iui we pay 10% they pay the rest. So lets hope this RE will be willing to work with us.
Clomid never worked for me. I have heard the "If it doesn't work at a low dose, it won't work at a higher dose." I *think* (it was long ago, if I remember correctly), I only oed the first cycle I took it, which was the lowest dose. I had horrible side effects from Clomid and really don't think it is the miracle maker(for me, obviously it works).
Once I switched to an RE, he did an HSG, then we switched to Femera, did an IUI and things worked. He does that before injectables, because he makes clients take a course on injecting and so that is another month wasted, kwim? I found femeral to be a lot gentler on my system than clomid was. But because it is really a breast cancer drug, it isn't FDA approved for fert use.
