Hello, my name is Veronica. I am getting ready to start Femara. I know it isn't Clomid but from my understanding it is very similar. Anyone on here taking Femara?
Here's a little about myself. I have had PCOS since around 15 or 16. I never had AF's on my own unless on Metformin and/or BCP. For years DH and I never became PG until 9-06. I became PG while on Met. but had a M/C at 6 weeks. I was able to conceive my DS while on Met alone and he is now over 2 1/2. I also had low prog. with both pg's and still have history of low preg.
We have not been TTC for over 6 months and I've not been O'ing. I've been using OPK's and temping. I went to a new dr today and was given Femara. I'm currently on CD 47 I think with no AF so I'm supposed to take Prometrium to induce AF then on CD 3-7 take Femara (2.5 mg) then Estradiol CD 10-12 and Prometrium about 3 days after O. I'm also supposed to go in for an U/S on CD 12 to check my follicles.
I'm very nervous about starting this as I've read some bad side effects of things like Femara/ Clomid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you ladies!
Hi Veronica,
I have taken Femra and liked it more than clomid. I responed to it very well. I had very little unwanted side effects as well.
I am now taking something similar to this, Tamoxifen and I am finding the same thing.

Motherhood after Infertility
Hi and welcome to the board!! Honestly I have never used any type of fertility drug this will be my first and I blame it all on the Depo shot. I would never suggest it for women that want more kids I have been trying for 6 months to bring af back and hopefully what I am on now will do the trick and the clomid will just give me a little push!!
I hope your journey is not a long one!!!
Hi Veronica,
Welcome!
I have not taken Fermara but have taken a good share of Clomid and I have PCOS.
From what I understand, Fermara is very much like Clomid but it does not have the same side effects as Clomid. Alot of doctors choose not to use it as it's the 'new kid on the block' where as Clomid has been around for awhile.
Are you currently on Metformin? Just wondering. Your chances of miscarriage are close to 60% in the first trimester if you're on Clomid alone (I imagine the numbers are close to the same with Fermara) but if you're on Metformin and Clomid the chances go down to around 20%. Your chances also decrease if they have you on progestrone through your first trimester along with Metformin. Just something to think about and maybe discuss with your doctor.
I've had two m/c and have done quite a bit of research and found this out - I am going this coming Friday to my RE to discuss this all and will update you on what I learn if you'd like.
As for side effects -- alot of people find that there are mild to no side effects on Fermara but on Clomid when you go higher up on the dose (I am currently at 150mg) the side effects increase (ie. side effects i've personally have had: hotflashes, moodswings, weight gain, headaches, food cravings) but they honest are not that bad.

Welcome Veronica. Im on my second round of clomid. I had just a few side effects. Good luck with your ttc journey. Hopefully it is short and sweet!
Welcome!
It's normal to be nervous, but it's really not that bad. I haven't tried Femera myself, but as others have mentioned, it apparently has less s/e's than clomid (which are still manageable). The way I see it, it's all worth it in the end!
