    Default An Ode To Clomid

Oh Clomid, How much do I loathe thee
One round down, and you're ready to kill me
the nausea, the headaches, the cramps and the O pain
I better get pregnant so this is all worth the gain.
7 DPO and the symptoms are naughty
But that's just b\c you mess with the hormones in my body.

That was a terrible poem, but for real - did anyone else feel this crappy at 7 dpo? I know its the progesterone and the estrogen and all that lovely stuff, but this is terrible.

    PCOS - I hate you.

I giggled at your poem - it's too cute!
I was on Clomid for almost 2 yrs @ 250mg - I've been "on hold" for the last three months as I had an MRI done and next week we review with the RE on what step is next to be taken for us (we do not qualify for IVF due to me being too high of a risk).

The side effects do not get easier as time goes on - they pretty much stay the same.

G/L catchin your eggie and it sticking!

Tacie, please let me know how it goes!! My t&p are with you! And forgive me if this is too personal, but what makes your PCOS so high risk? Is there a difference? Or is b\c you were on clomid so long?

I applaud you for your continued perseverance. I don't know how you do it. I've only been trying one year (2.5 months since diagnosis) and I'm ready to give up, esp when everyone is getting preggers around me!!! You're an inspiration!

Will your Re do IUI Tacie? Or have you tried that? My Dr said that doing more than 6 rounds of Clomid is very risky. She said after my 6th cycle I will need to go to the RE I have that set up for Jan 18th.

Meg don't give up just yet. You never know. We have been trying for a year and so many people at church are getting pregnant and it hurts but I know that one day I will be able to have a baby and it will make it just that more special!

    Hey Meg,

I will for sure let you ladies know how it goes next week
It's been a LONG road with many ups and downs (emotionally and physically) but it's part of our (DH & I) journey. The hardest is getting that positive after trying so long and then having it slip away.
No question is ever to personal - asking questions is how we learn from each other. If it was not for this site I would be a mental case locked up - LOL!
When they are checking to see if you qualify for IVF they check swimmers, and do an u/s to see how your ovaries look and follies. There are different ranges of PCOS - I am in the higher risk catagory as I have many many cysts in my ovaries (my ovaries look like raspberries instead of almonds) and it is here that they said that if I were to go thru with it that I would end up in the hosp for sure after retreval with fluid around my organs and possible blood clots, etc. The best end result would be that it would all go down and they would be able to continue the procedure for IVF in 4-6 weeks after egg retrieval - the worst is that I would die. So because of this, they rejected me. Now, I'm sure if I am stubborn enough and wanted it done I could push to be referred to another IVF clinic or go out of country but DH and I decided it was not worth it.
Because Clomid and IUI have worked in the past for conceiving a child but it ending in a miscarriage we were advised that after the MRI they would look to see if there was anything physical they should be checking that they have to correct surgically (I've had HSG (dye test), SIS already) but with an MRI they can see things extra clear. If there is something abnormal that they can correct with my uterius then we will decide if that's the steps we want to take. If it looks normal then we have decided to start trying IUI with injections in February 2011. I will most likely have to have my ovaries removed in two years as they will end up bursting if I don't (I have a cousin who had that happen - not a fun time).

I've had many melt downs over the years and have found that they are good because they help you release your emotions. I've also learned that you have to keep busy in other areas of life - I'm currently working and going to school part time. It helps keep your mind busy on other events in life and it helps you remain positive that there truly are great things in life. After our third miscarriage I had a melt down, then went out and bought a used motorbike (LOL) - had my license for 4 yrs but never got a bike because I always thought there were other things more important to pay for. That bike was the best thing I ever did - it brought back happiness again that I thought I'd lost. It also gave me new energy to continue. So if there is something you've been wanting but putting off - just go get it or do it!

I truly believe that all the crap that we go thru with infertility and all the crossroads and potholes we are faced with on our path are for a reason. If it was not for all the stuff I have been thru I would not be able to help our neighbour & friend (who had just been told that her baby's heart stopped beating at 24weeks).

    Hi!

Ya we've done IUI with Clomid this past year with our RE. It is risky to do more than 6 rounds of Clomid in a row but we had breaks with conceiving and then miscarrying. If it was not for Clomid & IUI combo we would not have conceived. Since IVF is not an option for us we are looking at injections with IUI - hopefully that will work

I am very excited about your RE appt - they can get the ball rolling faster for you. Are you looking into IUI with clomid?

I agree -- when our babies are here in our arms it will be extra special

Tacie you have been through a lot. It must be so hard for you. I just can't even imagine. I hope that you are able to find the answers and get pregnant. I know I all ready have children but it breaks my heart that I can't get pregnant and it's been so long. I just think it's werid I have 4 kids and my last 2 are 10months apart, we did have a loss at 17weeks and I had a chemical pregnancy before.

Tacie did you do injections? My Ob said that she thinks the Re will try Injections first and than IuI. But I am not sure. My ob wanted me to try 3 more cycles before going to the RE but our insurance doesn't need a Dr. Referel so I made the appt anyways. My ob said she will still give me my Jan meds. I hope the RE will help us!

It does suck that you can't have the one thing that your heart truly desires - no matter how many children you've had prior or how old/young you are.

We've not tried injections but that's our next step - injections w/ IUI
I am sure that your RE will help
