Soy Isoflavones vs Clomid

Hi Ladies,

Was just wondering have any of you taken Soy? I know its supposed to act like Clomid, but was wondering if you all have tried it. Its cheaper and found at Walmart, which is a plus.. Supposedly less side effects as well. I have an appt for a HSG next cycle around CD10. My doc wants to put me on clomid 50mg the cycle after that, so at least 2 more months:(.. I was going to try soy next cycle if this one is a bust.. I was going to do CD 5-9 120-160mg..

I really don't know anything about soy. I do remember some of the graduates saying that you have to be careful with it. I would definitely talk to my doctor about it. Good luck

I've done a ton of googling and yes you do have to be careful. They say to take it only as you would do clomid.. not late in the cycle as it could cause cycle problems.. like, don't take it later than cd 5-9.. the amount of success stories are ridiculous.. Ive seen them on other boards just not here and was wondering if anyone has tried it..

I tried it! and I am now 20w along Smile I don't O normally and was waiting for my consult with an OB regarding secondary infertility. It's a long wait here in my province (I was on the urgent list for 8 months after waiting until we'd been trying unsuccessfully for a year in order to be put on the list). I got impatient and decided to give the soy a try. I didn't have any side effects but it did make my temps a bit more jagged looking although there was still a rise.

Good luck! Oh and as for dosage I took 200mg days 3 to 7.

I tried it this cycle. I had a definate spike, but my temps have been very jagged (like Crystal said). Tested this am but got a -, so will probably test again in a few if the witch doesn't show.

I'm trying Soy this month...I was really concerned because of the negative possibilities. I do usually O, but sometimes delayed, and I was thinking maybe they aren't very strong. I suppose we shall see! If I O this week, even if I don't get pregnant, I will try it again, because that will have moved my O average day up a full week, closer to the "normal" 28 day cycles.

What exactly does O stronger mean? I have never heard that before...

Yay Susan, Good luck to you!! Are you charting? I'm going to chart along with the cbe digi and the cheapies because I need to be certain I at least O. Last cycle left me so confused.. I'm also using preseed, I RARELY get ewcm because I don't ovulate.

As far as soy i'm doing:

CD 3 - 120mg
CD 4 - 120mg
CD 5 - 120mg
CD 6 - 160mg
CD 7 - 160mg

Much, much babydust to all of us! :goodluck:

I am kind of. I hate doing the temping. It never ever seems to change lol But I'm pretty sure I don't ovulate. And that seems to be the thought of my doctor too. I have the preseed we've been using for a couple years, we used to buy a different brand, but they stopped selling it at the pharmacy. It was cheaper lol. But I'm sure i've seen the ewcm, I'm not sure how I get that without ovulating...

The pills I got were only 25 mg. So i took 4 the first three (cd 3, 4, 5), and 6 the last two (6, 7). We'll see!
I buy the $35 kits, the clearblue digi opk's. I just like them. They are easy to use, and no guessing! I started testing yesterday. Again, we'll see!!!!

Yes, much much babydust to us all!!!

I don't like temping either but it has to be done.. I can never really take it at the same time.. i'm going to try to be more on point with it tho..

I like the digi's too but last cycle I got a smiley face and when I popped the test out there was the control line and a dark wave type something.. But not two straight lines, I was soo confused.. I'm going to use the cheapies first and as it builds use the digi.

This has happened to me too... but i've gotten that wave with a neg too. The people that make the tests told me you can't read them by sight, and to just go with the smiley. ?? Who knows!

Ok. Am i supposed to be a huge freaking mess right now?
Argh, i have been crying over every tiny little thing, and then jumping to wanting to chew someone's head right off. Seriously. last night i talked to my mom, and i cried because i miss her and haven't seen her lately. Today, i saw a picture of baby toes and it set me off. Either it's from messing with my hormones, or i really seriously need a big nap!! Blah. Hope you are doing better than me with this experiment!

So far so good.. I took my last dose last night, my temps are consistent which never happens, hope that's a good sign!
I had a headache like 3 days into taking it but that couldve been from something else.. im actually on my way to the HSG and I'm a little scared.. hoping my pain reliever kicks in soon.

Welp, I survived.. It was VERY uncomfortable and I cursed.. When I tried to sensor myself the doctor said, "I understand, let it out" I definitely let out a few more. The beginning and middle of the procedure was the worst (inserting the catheter, blowing up the balloon and inserting the dye). I starting hyperventilating and got dizzy/lightheaded. The doc paused the procedure so I could relax and breathe, the nurse came back with an ice pack to put under my neck. I was on Percocet and aleve.. It still hurt, but I had no cramping or anything afterwards so far. I have a little spotting but that's normal.

Just glad it's over and the HSG revealed no blockages, all is well in the womb!

*Lurker*
I tried soy years ago before we TTC to see if it would make me O earlier. I usually O'ed around CD 21 but the cycle I did soy (can't remember the dosage) I actually O'ed later, around day 26 or 27. I never tried it again after that. I did read lots of threads on the web where people had success with it though.

I hope youre doing better than me!!! Smile Looks like you're only on 14, that's good! Really really hope you do! Smile

Looks like you O'd on CD 14, putting you at 8dpo.. I wonder why FF didn't give you CH? Are they not high enough??

I don't know, the chart-er I was using didn't have the crosshairs, so I've really never seen them. I was busy today working on moving some of my charts over. The main screen seemed to say (in a not very straightfoward way) that it was because I got the opk positive earlier than that, and I also don't have a period to go with the temp drop... I'm honestly not the best with reading these things, I don't usually get ANYTHING different when putting in my temps, so this was interesting, if nothing else!

Well that temp drop at what im calling 8 dpo, could very well be implantation.. You never know.. Lets see if it jumps back up.. I bet it will!

OOHHH!!! You are so smart Patrice!! I took out my opk test and it DID give me the crosshairs! So I looked it up, the digi's have a 10% error rate, so i'm going to assume it was a lousy test. Oh wow, I think I O'd! I never O! I"m so freaking excited just about that! Smile

I hope I don't have line eyes but I see a faint something but mostly when I do the grey scale.. No af, so i'm not counting you out just yet.. Test again in a day or two..

AFM: i'm crampy as hell, since last night.. Its weird! Why am I crampy?? I scared I may be 7dpo instead of 5dpo.. The temp I didn't put in saturday would give me CHs at CD12.. But i didn't put it in because I woke up super late and was hungover..

Susan- I don't see anything either, but it's early yet. How was your temp today? Really hoping you get a bfp!!!

Patrice- I've been having cramps too, but I haven't o'd yet. Hoping it means I'll have a good O, cause i don't remember having cramps like this before. I usually don't o until cd18-20 (when on clomid) so it will be a while yet before I know.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you two!! It would be awesome if we got to be birth board buddies on our little experiment...
