A friend of mine gave me 3 fitted diapers over the weekend. Two of them were fine, but when I took the third one off of my daughter this morning, the ammonia smell was overwhelming. This morning I boiled it and now it is sitting in a bucket of cool water with a little CD detergent until I can figure out what to do next. My main question is...is it safe to wash it with my other diapers? I haven't had any issues with ammonia stink and I don't want this one diaper to contaminate my stash! Thanks!
Were you using the one that stank as a night time diaper? If you've already boiled & soaked, its my opinion that you don't have to worry about it tainting your stash.
Boiling hopefully took care of it! I wouldn't worry about it affecting your stash at this point.
Ok, thanks. Yes, i was using it as a night time diaper. I had been having trouble with leaks at night and she suggested I try fitteds. She gave me 2 Mother Ease (which I really like) and a Hoot Hoot Baby (the offending diaper). I still think I might hand wash it and then use it on Evelyn and see if it still has the ammonia smell before I put it in with the rest of my wash.
Ah, it was a different kind of diaper. I figured there had to be something not quite the same as the others. Sometimes different diapers just handle night time pee differently. I swear T's night time diapers can be toxic. The more natural fiber I add the less stink there is.
