I was reading about a lady on another board who always washes her CDs with Dawn because she always uses laundry mats. She was having issues with everything else. Not sure what the long term effects are, but it's a thought! I've been thinking about that if I have any issues b/c we'll be without our washer and dryer for the next 3-4 months.

*Hugs* I can totally sympathize with ammonia rashes, they are the worst! DS2 is in cloth full time but DS1 was only in it at night. Recently we had to stop putting him in cloth at night because he was getting awful ammonia rashes because he's almost 3 and his urine is so concentrated now. I'd put him in sposies at night until the rash cleared then once it was gone we'd try again and within 2-3 days the rash would be back. Nothing would help, I'd strip, I'd do a million rinses, it was always the same, but DS2 was totally fine, no stink or rash from his cloth and their dipes are washed together, so eventually we just gave up. DS1 is PLing right now so hopefully it won't be an issue too much longer anyway.

I've had to bleach the inserts before when we had bad ammonia problems. Now we only have the ammonia smell on overnight dipes. Also, sunning them helped tremendously. We didn't have any stink all summer because of that. I doubt the different detergent is the problem. Oh, and Rockin' Green didn't work that great for us when we had hard water. I like Tiny Bubbles.

I was never in love with Rockin green, I haven't had any major stink issues and I wash in cold with various detertergents I have been trying. None are specifically cloth nappy ones (because there is nowhere that sells them, even rockin green is hard to get) but all are clean rinising, The one I am using right now had some rave reviews from other Mum's both for price and how well it works. It's actually made for wool and delicates so leaves a nice light eucalyptus scent as well and from those that have been using it longer no buildup.

I was talking to another mom here the other day- an Aussie, who said that she always washed on cold back in Oz, but here, she's been having the same problems as me! I think the hard water is largely to blame the more I find out about it. But I still don't know what to do about it otherwise. I will have to look for stuff when we are in KL in a few weeks.

Our stinkies just came back a few weeks after stripping for the first time ever. I did two things. I turned the hot water heater up (prety sure DH turned it back down though) and I added a second extra rinse. No more stinkies. I can't imagine its because I'm using too much Rockin' Green. The package says to use like 3 scoops. I use 2 and my loads are fairly large. Anyway, just thought I'd share that an extra rinse is helping over here and we have wretchedly hard water.

Yet another idea. Have you actually read the back of the Rockin' Green bag? There's instructions on what to do in the event of stink! Who'da thunk? Anyway, it recommends the occasional long soak. Maybe that would help? I'm going to try that instead of all this rinsing I'm doing. I live in the desert for crying out loud!

We use a different detergent for our clothes and haven't had any issues. I use Classic Rock and surprisingly, it has been enough for our water. I was told that most of Texas has hard water, especially central and Eastern parts but I guess ours isn't that bad here.

Have you tried contacting RnG? I hear that they are very helpful with troubleshooting problems. Maybe they would have some suggestions, especially since you have special circumstances? It might be worth a try.

Funny... seriously ladies... my fairly normal m.o. is to do 3-6 rinses after washing. Not just an extra... 3-6. Every time.

And yes, I soak, according to the RnG bag fairly often as well.

So far, none of these things seem to help.

DD has been in sposies for two weeks now, and on Saturday we leave for a 3 week vacation, so she will continue to be in sposies during that time. Honestly, these issues along with everything else in my life right now, are making me really appreciate sposies and the fact that I have the choice to use them if I want/need to!
