What detergent are you happy using in your HE machine for your diapers?
We just got our first washer and dryer this weekend! It is a top loading HE machine. We are expecting #2 on March 2 and will be first time cloth diaper users I'm hoping to find a detergent that works well on clothes and diapers. We have been All Free and Clear users up until now and I've seen mixed reviews on using it with cloth.
I use two different detergents - one for clothes and one for diapers. Hasn't ever been an issue and I've traveled just fine with cloth like this. Some people have great luck with All F&C and Tide where others have lots of issues from them. A lot depends on the type of water you have and if it's hard why it's hard. And of course machines do make a difference as we learned from AnnaRO.
I know Crunchy Clean is HE safe. It's what I use on my cloth. I know beccasweet uses it with her side loading HE. I've used it with both top and side HEs briefly before. With my current machine and water type I only use a tablespoon a load, so a bag lasts a long time.
I'm way too cheap to want to use the same detergent on both CDs and regular laundry since I've had issues with All F&C and CDs in the past. We use Arm and Hammer F&C for clothes right now.
Most importantly (which I'm sure you've read if you've been researching detergents!) just avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets with all your laundry. Just get yourself some wool dryer balls.
Thanks! I'm looking at the crunchy clean now It looks affordable which is good!
I'm fine with using two different soaps if need be I just want to avoid build up issues as much as I can because that seems like a pain! I didn't know if using a different detergent on our clothes could cause issues with that or anything else. We definitely won't be using any fabric softeners or dryer sheets!
I used mountian Green with our top loader he, and also rockn green, both work great. I also switched our clothing detergent to ecos which I buy at sams, comes in lavender and i believe a free n clear version, I have heard of moms using this for their diapers too, but i never did. I find the clothes are soft enough with out softener while using ecos. Also ecos is really inexpensive for he per load.
