Finally did the Oxy-Vin soak!

So I soaked my diapers in the oxyclean + vinegar over night. Didn't have so much of the reaction that everyone talks about- it bubbled up some, some no smoke and it didn't really get hot either. They are in the wash now. I did one hot wash with an extra rinse and then I'll just keep doing extra rinses until I don't see any more bubbles. My parents have a very new model HE frontloader, so we'll see how this goes. They also have INCREDIBLY soft water (like I keep dropping dishes while washing them because they are SO soapy- it's seriously like I didn't really realize just HOW hard our water in Laos is!)...so hopefully I can get these dipes clean now, and then get some good hard water soap to take back to Laos, and not have any more problems!!! Good luck! Hope this works for you. An oxiclean soak really helped us here for things I couldn't boil with softer water (though not quite as soft as your parents!).

Good luck! It really worked for me, too...and I totally know what you mean about soft water being a shocker after a long time being used to very hard water. I remember the first time I washed my hair at my FIL's house in CT and it was like a shampoo explosion.

That totally happens when I visit my mom. I wind up spending like 20 minutes getting the soap out of my hair!

I was really procrastinating getting back into cloth while I SLOOOOOOWLY got everything set up (got a diaper pail, still waiting on my sprayer to get hooked up, etc, etc)...but I ran out of sposies this morning, so, DD is back in cloth. So far so good. I have to say the diapers are so much softer after this one big clean! She's wearing a diaper over-night now, so we'll see if there is any smell in the morning! I hope not! :)
