Default First experience with cloth diapers....

I am expecting our third child in about six weeks and this is the first time that we have decided to CD. I have been slowly building my stash over the last few months to get ready. DD2 is almost three and is potty-trained during the day but is still in diapers at night. We ran out of disposables last night so I decided to try one of the cloths on her. I put her in one of our Kawaiis stuffed with one microfiber insert and one prefold. She commented that it was "too fluffy" but said that she was fine with it otherwise. I was THRILLED to see that she woke up this morning with dry clothes and bedsheets!!! I am so excited to start using these full time when #3 arrives My stash currently consists of 9 Kawaiis and I have 2 Sunbaby diapers on the way. I will definitly be sticking with the Kawaiis and I am hopeful that I will like the Sunbaby diapers just as much.

DH was skeptical when I first brought up the idea of CD'ing. But, once I showed him how simple they are and that we will be saving about $1000 per child, he was cautiously on board. I was SO happy when he asked to be the one to try and put the cloth one on her last night. He said that once we get used to the snaps that they should be pretty good.

    That's great!

I really love my Kawaii bamboo diapers. Took awhile to get the bamboo up to full absorbency, but once I did they'e been great! These inserts are a bit thinner and not as "fluffy" as microfiber (though I do have some of those which DH uses). I bought mine new off of ebay since it was a lot cheaper than through a store.

Do note that I don't think most find the Kawaii OS pocket fit very well for newborns. They do have a smaller sized pocket which works better I've heard. However, I think the Sunbabies are smaller than the Kawaii and should work sooner.

How great that your husband is on board though! My husband still thinks I've lost my mind.

    Mine too :

I'm excited for you, are you going to get more diapers? I'd recomend at least 20 for BF baby.

Yay! Welcome to the world of CD! My DH was actually the one who INSISTED on CDing. I was pretty sure I wanted to but he gave me no choice. Darn.

Personally, I'd have at least 36 for a NB. I tend to change diapers really frequently though. DD was seriously going through 20 diapers per day for the first month. I had 2 dozen to start and was doing laundry every day. No fun! Once we bought more and I was able to do laundry every other day it was a huge relief.

Yeah, but Teagan was a crazy eliminator at first. I was fine with 25 and washing every three days. (They switched as they got older, though. Now I'm the one with the poop machine!)

Definitly going to increase the stash. These are just what I have bought so far. I have been spreading out the cost by doing an order with each paycheck.

I do have a couple of the Kawaii Pure and Natural which start at 6 pounds and I plan to get a few more so that they will be more likely to fit the newborn better. I do plan to have her in disposables right at first just until she loses the umbilical stump and all that meconium is out. She will be formula-fed so I won't be dealing with any of the EBF poop.
