Flats!

Just got some fluffy mail in today including 6 flats! Haven't ever used these before. I've got tons of covers, snappis, and pins.
Anyone here use flats?
Any tips or helpful websites for me?

Hehe. I have some but haven't ever used them. They're my JIK diapers and I've never made it that deep into my stash!

I use flats all the time, they are my night time nappies.
http://www.realnappiness.co.uk/acatalog/Folding_Flat_Nappies.html This one has some nappy folds, I use a kite fold on Ronin, I was using a chinese fold which is great for boys, but I wasn't able to snappy it up well and I don't want to use pins (I'm scared of jabbing him or me)

Wendy - do you double diaper at night or something? I've been doing one L prefold double stuffed with a S and a stay-dry liner. Most nights it works but if she nurses all night she usually requires a change around 4am. Any attempt to switch to something more sophisticated results in disaster.

Nope just one nappy with pilchers over them. The terry flats I have just keep soaking it up, they are just like a towel. In the morning he is pretty wet and so is the nappy, but it works. I had him in a pocket one night last week and he soaked it so much we got a leak, never had that with the flats.

Interesting! I've never seen terry flats.
Recently DS has been doing well in a pocket stuffed with 2 bamboo inserts and 1 hemp insert underneath those. Sometimes it's soaked (but no leaking), but most of the time parts of the inserts are still dry. I've thought about trying prefolds overnight, but I'm too lazy to cut out a fleece liner to keep him from feeling wet. lol.

We've used flats all day and they've done really well! I can see myself wanting to use flats when out out of the house because they'll take up less room in my purse and wet bag. It's hard CDing when you don't carry a diaper bag! Lol

Teagan's never leaked in a prefold but she gets super fidgety if she starts feeling too wet.

Yay for flats success! How do you CD without a diaper bag?! I also have a serious over-packing disorder. I'm using the two pockets I got the other day as on-the-go diapers to cut down on the bulk in my bag.

All I have on me is my wallet, keys, cell phone, small thing of eye drops for my contacts, a onesie, small wet bag, one diaper (usually a pocket but man a flat will take up less space!), small travel wipes, disposable changing mat (somebody gave me a package of these and I reuse till dirty), and my pocket point and shoot camera. Sometimes I'll throw in my nursing cover depending on where I'll be (I'm not a big fan of Mexican men staring at DS nursing). I keep an extra diaper or two in my car where I have more wipes, a fancy mat, etc.
What else do people drag around with them?! I couldn't fill up a diaper bag if I tried! lol.

I'm an American married to an Australian, and so far based on my observations, terry makes the world go round in Australia! Smile I joke with my Aussie SIL about this all the time... they'll make anything out of terry! Smile

Yup, when I was a kid I had terry towelling shorts and all, the height of 80's fashion.
