So my little guy was diagnosed with a fungal nappy rash a couple of weeks back, the doctor said it's common for this time of year and is seeing a lot of them at the moment because of the heat. He gave us an OTC cream and said it was fine to keep using cloth. It had started to clear and was looking better but last night the little guy was up screaming for 3 hours. I thought he had a stomach ache so was trying to treat that, then changed his nappy and saw this rash was back and a million times worse than before. I put the cream on and put him in a sposie because I put the cream on so thick. He instantly calmed and passed out with tiredness.
Now I don't know if I should keep him in sposies and get the rash gone for good, or at least mostly clear before putting cloth back on and also how I should treat my nappies to get rid of the nastiness. I finally have a new washing machine so I was thinking washing on either a hot cotton wash or baby care cycle to strip, with a medic rinse followed by the normal cold rinses and possibly a canesten/ dettol laundry rinse (we have special formulations for laundry rinses).
What would you do in this situation?
Haha we are in the wet season, sun is a myth for a couple of months. I have a boiling care setting on my machine which washes at 95 celcius (203F) so I could use that on my flats. My pockets I can wash at 65C (150F) which is about as high as they recoomend. The medic rinse is also a hot rinse.
Urgh he just wet his disposable and it stinks. I'm going to miss cloth for the next week or so.
Our days have been around 35C lately which is why there is a run on fungal infections, they have the perfect breeding ground. I got some super heavy duty cream and some sposies and we are going to kick this infection as quickly as possible. I made sure to buy a huge pack of spsosies because Murphy's law says if I have tons of sposies it will disappear quickly. Also going to do lots of nappy free and training pants time tomorrow as we are home most of the day.
I think those hot washes are a great start!
I agree about the disposables. Even DH commented last week about them stinking. I've got Aiden back in cloth b/c I couldn't stand it any longer!
