Our GroVia AIOs are leaking at nap time. They only leak when they are saturated so I really feel like it's an absorbancy issue. I've tried stripping, so it's not that. They just don't hold enough for her. (Side note: This is why I don't CD at night! I can't even get consistent results at naps so I fear what would happen if I were to let her be in a diaper for 12 hours.)
I would consider a wool option since I've invested in some newborn wool already. I would really like to make sure whatever I do, it is cost effective. Part of me thinks using our "natural" sposies at naps would just be easier but part of me really wants to avoid doing that. Plus, these diapers can be used again with DD #2 so it could be a reasonable investment.
So, hit me with your suggestions. I'm all ears!
Do you just have the AIOs? Do you have any pockets? I'd set her up with a double or triple stuffed pocket with some hemp in there. We were having lots of sleep time leak issues until I started adding hemp to her pockets. Our current night time setup is 2 hemp inserts (one for naps) exterior to a microfiber insert in a night time Kawaii pocket. DDs thighs have also slimmed down quite a bit and because of that, the added bulk of the extra inserts, and the lack of hip snaps on the Kawaiis, I was getting a gap in the thigh in the front. I fixed that by just slapping a blueberry cover over the Kawaii. Its not really any bulkier and it works like a charm.
I actually bought the AIOs to use instead of pockets at nap time. She is a tummy sleeper most of the time and the pee was running out the top. I needed something that was absorbent next to her skin b/c the stay dry liner was allowing the pee to run out, even when it was snapped fairly snug. I do love our hemp stuffed in pockets for when she is up and running around but, unfortunately, they didn't work for naps.
What pocket do you use? Aiden stays dry during naps, but at night I only put him in Kawaii mom label pockets with none of the rise snaps used. I like them because Kawaiis have high rises and with the rise all the way up, it easily goes to his belly button! I also like that the mom label has hip snaps. I then stuff with two bamboo inserts and a hemp doubler. It's soaked in the morning, but no leaks. I have thought about trying two hemp like Erin does, but I'd need to buy more doublers first. DS is a totally belly sleeper and he never let's me take the time to point his little dude down, so he definitely pees UP. High rise diapers are my friend.
Yeah, I don't use any of the rise snaps on her night time diaper. Its really high but it doesn't leak/wick. I've noticed that most of her diapers (Kawaiis, Sunbabies and a WAHM label) will leak/wick if I stuff them with more than one insert with the rise snapped down because the top front sort of pokes out IFKWIM.
So, I was thinking about your problem in the shower this morning (its where I do my best thinking) and it came to me to suggest prefolds. I've NEVER had a leak with prefolds. They're the end-all-be-all of absorbency and they're super cheap so even if you don't have any, so outfitting yourself with enough for naps won't break the bank.
I do think prefolds could work but there are a couple of problems. She HATES diaper changes. This has been an irritatingly long phase and changes can be exhausting for me. Getting on the floor, leaning over, being kicked at (NOT COOL) makes me want it to be over as quickly as possible. I've never used prefolds so I know I would need some time to learn and be proficient. I'm not sure if Jordan would have the patience. I would also have to make sure I had a good cover to snap over it all b/c she has taken her shorts off a time or two during naps and I fear the diaper is next!!! I'm not crazy about the idea of her playing with a snappi. It's a good idea for sure but I'm not 100% confident in it working for us.
I hope I don't sound ungrateful for the suggestions or like I'm shooting all of them down. Just thinking through what might work best for us.
You don't have to even snappi a prefold! You can just fold it in thirds and stick it in a cover and then its no more effort than putting on any other diaper. You can even use a pocket as a cover if you just want to try it out without really investing much. Trifolding is really only occasionally inferior to full on folding if she has loose poops. If she doesn't poop during her naps then it'll be fine.
