So DD pretty much wears cloth all the time, as she has most of her life...even with all the stink issues. I just do my best to wash and change her diapers fast.
Well now for the second time in the space of a month or two, she's got these weird pimple looking things on her girly bits. they start just as red bumps, and then after a couple days they seem to get more irritated and kind of break open and get a bit of puss at the top- which then really makes them look like nasty pimples.
So I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this. Could whatever build up that is causing the stink irritate her skin? Last time she got them I took her to the doc and he, upon seeing the cloth diaper, asked if I was sure the diapers didn't have bugs! He's kind of a jerk anyway- but he couldn't be right could he???
Or is it more likely that she's got something that is making her break out like this??? Last time doc gave me some kind of pure antibiotic ointment to use, and it helped pretty quickly so I'm using that again- and DD is now in a sposie again while we use it, because I don't know about getting that stuff on my diapers.
I seriously love the IDEA of cloth... But in a way, these diapers have been such a pain for me!!!!

Why exactly would CDs be prone to bugs???? Weird indeed. Could it be a yeast infection? Here are some descriptions of different rashes. http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/skin-care/diaper-rash. If you are having a lot of stink though, it could be a build up issue. I'd strip the diapers and change your wash routine a little. Typical things to change are the amount of soap and add more rinses.

I was thinking it might be a yeast infection. Both my DSs got (and the one in diapers still gets) diaper rashes all the time. When they do, I either use cream and put them in disposables or use cream and put in a disposable liner into the cloth diaper (to protect the diaper) If the rash gets really bad I go to the doctor and she gives me canesten mixed with some type of steroid - which works to clear up the rash every time, but I try not to do this too often. If the rash is yeast, you will need to thoroughly clean the cloth diapers or it will keep on coming back. You'll likely need to soak them in vinegar too.

My first DS had a weird reaction to Purex that sounds a lot like that. We had some stink and he got horrid blisters that got so bad they thought it was staph. I switched to arm and hammer and they were gone in a flash. I don't know how many detergent options you have their, but it could be worth a try.
Are the bumps just on the front and does she sleep on her front?

We had trouble with an open-wound rash when Natalie was really little. We got rid of it with antibiotic FINALLY but then it tried to come back with the cloth. I did some research and found that I need to find a way to kill the bacteria on my diapers. My normal "hot" cycle is not hot enough since we have the water heater turned down for safety and laundry detergent is not normally anti-bacterial. My research said to turn up water heater, which I did, and/or use an antibacterial dish was such as dawn dish soap, which I also did. We have not had a single problem since. Basicly, this is like doing a strip on the diapers. I now do it once a month or if I think it is needed sooner.
Thanks, everyone. I don't think this is a typical rash, as the spots/pimples are individual red spots and this last round she literally had like 5. The skin surrounding each spot looks normal- not red or anything. I mean, I guess the doc said bugs, because the spots kind of LOOK like bug bites, and the fact that there are just a few random spots, makes it look like it too. The first time it happened I did think to myself that perhaps she sat on an ant hill (we have red ants here), and a couple crawled into her diaper- which could have happened. But the fact that it's happened AGAIN has me really stumped. Also, I got bit in the foot by one of those ants earlier today and it HURTS, so I can't imagine her getting bit by them and me not knowing (because she'd be like clawing at her diaper trying to get out of it, etc).
I just don't know. Wish I could post a picture, but, I don't think there is a safe way to do that!

If she'd sat on a red ant hill, you'd know it. My little sister did that 20 years ago and I still remember the screams. Teagan had the most random bites a few months back and I was panicking thinking we had bed bugs. They weren't in her diaper region though. Its possible they are bug bites but I highly highly doubt bugs are living in her diapers. More likely that they visited her diaper or bit her when she was diaperless.
P.S. No, we do not have bed bugs!
Yeah, ditto that! I stepped in a red ant hill once. It...wasn't subtle. I couldn't wear a shoe for three days. Sounds to me like some kind of irritation or breakout. You can technically get a pimple anywhere you have a hair follicle...maybe a reaction to a particular ointment?
