First off I would like to say I have been cloth diapering for about 6.5 months now and it is going great We use the flip system with some bumGenius thrown in there. Our daughter is 7.5 months old and I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with our 4th child. Which is also a girl As of right now for cloth diapers we have 10 flip covers 24 regular inserts and 6 organic inserts and 4 bumGenius 4.0, that is enough to get me through so I am only washing every 2-3 days. Now obviously since it is a girl we don't need to buy a whole new stash for the new baby, I am just wondering how many more you think I need to buy?
We will for sure probably buy atlas 2 more bumGenius as those are night time diapers, but how many more covers and inserts do you think I will need? For those who have not used the flip diapers each cover comes with three inserts.
If you plan to CD from day one, prefolds and covers are by far the cheapest route and they work fantastically. I'd personally want at least 3 dozen though. That will get you through 2-3 days. We started with a dozen and I was doing laundry every day. Sometimes twice per day. Once your DD2 fits into your OS diapers, I'd think 6-8 per day for DD1 and 10-12 per day for DD2 will cover you nicely. If you don't want to buy that many more pricey diapers you could stick with prefolds for DD2 for a while longer until she's going through fewer diapers.
Oh, to clarify, I was assuming the new baby would be sharing the ones you've already got and meant a dozen on top of that.... But, I forget not everyone has 10lb babies that fit OS dipes from birth.
So yes, you'll need at least 2-3 doz diapers that will fit the newborn
