    Default Mysterious Daycare Leaks

DD has been having 1-2 pretty massive leaks per day at daycare lately. At first I thought my diapers were in need of a strip so I stripped them but it didn't stop the leaks. Then I started sending a hemp doubled nap time diaper, which helped at nap time but she still leaks at other times. I recently asked her teachers to try putting the diaper on a bit tighter than they have been but its hasn't helped and her diaper when she comes home is as tight as it usually is when I put it on.

I can't think of what else might be going on! Thing is, she doesn't leak at home! I mean, sure, occasionally but not massive leaks several times per day. Maybe she just guzzles water like no other at daycare? She's had the same teachers for almost 8 months so its not likely user error. They have floaters change diapers sometimes but that doesn't explain the frequency with which its happening. Her lead teacher has suggested that perhaps I could start sending prefolds instead of the Sunbaby pockets because she (and I) know they are bullet proof. I'd just hate to do that because I know that the floaters wouldn't have any idea what to do with them (you wouldn't believe the strange diaper configurations she came home with when we sent prefolds) and I've had several teachers come up to me to ask if I could suggest pockets to the parents who send prefolds. Of course, rather than harass fellow parents, I choose to offer a lesson in diaper folding to the teacher .

So, I'm in a quandary. I've had success sending the Sunbabies doubled with a hemp liner but I only have so many hemp liners. Should I really bother buying like a dozen more when I plan to start sending her in trainers in about 4 months?! She's using the potty like a pro at home and the only thing holding me back from full time PTing is that daycare doesn't have a potty in the 1y old rooms and can't have a teacher take her to the potty and go out of ratio. Honestly, I can live with having to wash a few more pairs of pants every week. I just feel bad for the teachers, you know?

    Argh. Any other ideas?

That is weird...but I wonder if, since you are using the potty so much at home, if she's just holding longer at school so it all comes rushing out at once? And since microfiber is slower to absorb than other fibers, it might just be overwhelming them? What if you trifolded a PF and stuffed with that instead of the microfiber insert... If I remember correctly, I think the NB ones fit in there just fine...

Good luck--that's frustrating! At least school is willing to work with you, right?

I'm wounding the same with Leigh. Natural fibers do absorb faster. Got her small prefolds around to trifold inside the sunbabies? Or maybe send prefolds and sunbabies both (although that might bring more confusion)?

And at least they didn't suggest you bring disposables. Though I'm sure by now they know you well enough to know that's a dirty word.

Hehe, yeah they know better than to suggest disposables. I usually keep 2 disposables in her cubby JIC there is an extreme poop emergency requiring twice as many diapers in one day than she usually goes through. A floater used one once (I guess because cloth scared her?) and her regular teacher apologized profusely the next day. I thought it was kinda funny. It could be that she's just holding it but I don't think so because we're usually on the go all weekend and so she's in diapers and they don't leak. It might help to swap the inserts for prefolds but I sent all her NB & SM prefolds to my SIL. Hmmmmmm.

Yes, but when you are on the go, she's sitting a lot, right? Whereas at school she's probably running around...doesn't microfiber work better with some pressure? IDK, just thinking out loud...it is weird!

And, you know, if they run out of diapers, they'll just borrow one from someone else. Addy's come home in strange diapers more than once. Nice of you to think ahead, though

(...Not to talk you into spending money, but if you know the hemp works, it's not exactly a waste seeing as you know you're having another.....just sayin' )

I found I get a few leaks because of super soaker toddler pee. Ronin uses the toilet and is holding more, he has about 4 times listed a day (I know they have set toileting times though so he is sat on the toilet more) On weekends because we are often busy he can supersoak a nappy and we get some leaks.

So, I've been sending my Sunbabies with an added hemp soaker and just recently stripped everything. And, I'm still getting massive daycare leaks. Its got to be super soaker toddler pee.

I've come to the conclusion that we have two options. 1) Just stick it out. Afterall, she's moving up to the potty training room in 3-4 months. DH is fond of this option. 2) Buy a few more fitteds and send those. She never leaks in prefolds or fitteds but prefolds are harder to get onto a squirming toddler and I only have 6 fitteds (2 days of daycare). If I get like 6 more fitteds and a few more covers, I'll have enough to get through until wash day. Washing more frequently than every 4 days is not an option because we're already ridiculously busy.

So, who uses fitteds and which brands do you like? If they're cheap enough I might be able to get DH on board.

I got a bunch of like quadruple hand me down Snug-to-Fit fitteds and LOVED LOVED LOVED them. They did eventually start to get pretty beat, and I threw out a few, but they'd made it so far, I didn't judge them for it. I might still have 6 good ones, or even if you just wanted to try one?

They sell them on GMD. They have a flap so they're quick-dry.

Are the ones you have velcro or snap? It looks like the ones sold by GMD are only velcro. I've vowed to never use velcro again. Such a pain.

I actually have both. I thought I would hate the velcro and love the snap, but I ended up gravitating toward velcro just because you didn't have to line up snaps and it was faster. I can see what's decent in the stash and let you know tomorrow (when DD is not sleeping in there!) You can at least try one and see if it works for you!
