Thread: New to cloth diapering

Hi I am still trying to figure all this out. We have a diaper service which we love, but we are hoping get a good stash going and drop the service soon. Anyway I have been using Prowrap covers and just got my thirsties and bummi covers in the mail today.

Tomorrow there is a consignment sale and they said they have size large bum genius covers. Did bum genius come in sizes or are they one size? Also they are being sold for $5 each. Is that a good deal?

Can I use dreft on my Thirsties and bummi's? Or do I have to use a special detergent? I am so overwhelmed!

I'm not sure about BG's sizing but lots of brands have OS & sized lines. $5 might be a good deal if they're in OK condition. Personally, I won't pay more than 50% of the original price no matter what the condition.

Dreft is just about the worst detergent out there for washing CDs. You can use simple All Free & Clear or tons of CD-friendly powder detergents. Here's a pretty extensive list : http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.co...entchoices.htm

I think they are AIO diapers. How may AIO's do you need at over 22 lbs?

That depends on how old your baby is at 22 lbs. My DD hit 20 lbs at 3 months and was going through 15 diapers per day, easy! I'm also probably not the best person to ask about the number of diapers you'll need as I've been told I use way more diapers than most people. If its a 22 lb 1 year old, I'd say 8-ish diapers per day.

DS is just now to 22 pounds (maybe, not 100% sure since we have no scale and no doc appts coming up) and we go through 6-8 diapers a day.

My DD turned 15 months today and is about 19lbs, babies come in all sizes! We go through about 6 diapers a day since she only poops once a day at this point on most days and she's doesn't pee much. It's funny because DS pees like crazy, much more often than DD. Sometimes it just depends on the child!

From your signature looks like your DS turned 2 months yesterday? If so, maybe 10 diapers a day, and you'll want to wash every 2-3 days. Just pay attention to how many diapers you use on a daily basis and you'll be able to figure out how many you need.
