    Default Prepping hemp

I got some hemp inserts today brand new in the packet at the op shop (best bargain ever) but was a little too organised in my tidying up today and threw the packet out with the instructions on how to prep them. I rmemeber it said they needed to be and something about most absorbant after 3 washes. So any hints on prepping them, I have done one wash with my nappies so far which is a pre wash, quick cotton (about 1 hour) cycle then a rinse (20 minutes).

As long as there aren't snaps or anything, boil them! Hemp does take awhile to get up to full absorbency like bamboo. I usually end up doing a hot wash with a bit of soap a couple of times (drying each time!) and then boil and call it good. Over time they'll get to become super absorbent (just remember that they are slow to absorb).

I washed my hemp quite a few times before they were nice and absorbent. I'd say 5 or so. I just washed them with my diapers and with my other clothes (using CD detergent) instead of making a separate load. I think I started using them after the third wash but I noticed a difference after about the fifth.

I never wash in hot unless I have to, like stripping nappies. I'll boil the kettle and soak them overnight, though I put them in a safe place after the first wash and can't find them now. Will line drying them be fine as well, I hate the dryer and never use it and it needs to be fixed anyway( stupid thing, can you tell how much I hate dryers)

Line drying should be perfectly fine.

Line drying is fine. Just note that hemp will be really stiff after line drying. I always have to beat mine with dryer balls (no heat) for a bit before stuffing a pocket. I've heard to not wash with other diapers the first couple of times b/c natural fabrics have natural oils that keep them from absorbing and you don't want that to somehow get on other diapers. Not sure how true that is. I'm usually too impatient to wait till diaper day, so I wash with regular laundry and then boil. lol
