Used the same diapers for multiple kids?

I swear I've seen some people mention that they have successfully used the same lot of diapers for multiple kids (and that they are still in relatively great shape)... I'm wondering what diaper it is that survives so long?

I know we'll use our prefolds for all our kids.... but once they outgrow the prefolds... nothing seems THAT sturdy.

So what say you?? Which diapers are the most long lasting?

We have used our Motherease one size diapers for 2 children so far. We plan to use them for our 3rd as well. They are in okay shape and are still absorbent. They don't look pretty, but they work. Our Motherease covers have also gone through 2 children and are still going strong. We rarely have leaks. I think the Motherease are built to last, I mean not only have we used them for 2 children, but we used them for all of our cloth diapering ages, from about a month old until toilet training, which was 3 for DS1

Our Bum Genius only lasted through one child and then they were garbage.

I know... I seem to have fallen for the WRONG diaper when it comes to sustainability. BGs fit Beni SO WELL, and we both like to use them... but like I said on the other thread... I threw one away earlier this week (when I was trying to spray poop off it actually went INTO the diaper through a hole... I wasn't going to dig it out! And that diaper was FULL of holes.) and I know we have a few more that won't last much longer.

The Snug-to-Fit fitteds I have were hand me downs from my SIL, who had already used them on two kids. The velcro ones weren't going to win any awards for beauty, and about a third of them did finally develop enough holes that I had to ditch them over time, but since this was kid #3, I thought that was pretty darn good! Also she had NOT treated them nicely--they'd been bleached numerous times, etc. I give them a major thumbs up for longevity (and ease of use/effectiveness!)

Personally, I hated BGs. They seemed to get crunchy and nonabsorbent really quickly.

All my prefolds are in practically new condition. I'm sending them to my SIL for her upcoming bundle and then she'll send them back to me for our next bundle. I'll likely send them back to her or to my sister after that! Most of my NB-infant covers made it through DD and I'm sending those off too. I don't expect to get many of them back. I think most covers are no more than a 2 and done item. The covers I use now probably won't be usable for another kid because I've been using them for almost a year. Almost none of the velcro closures I've had are still usable. I could probably whip out a sewing machine (if I had one and knew how to use it) and fix them up though. The Blueberry covers I've had for almost a year are holding up well aside from some minor tearing of the PUL around some of the snaps.

The Sunbabies I have are holding up really well. They seriously look practically brand new. I didn't start using them until just a few months ago but they've been in use since Leigh first got them (7 months-ish ago?). I expect them to last until DD PTs and perhaps through baby #2's toddler years (since I'll probably stick to prefolds until next baby is walking like I did with DD). I always line dry my pockets. I think that's easier on them. The other batch of pockets I have are CooshyToosh. I think they're a WAHM brand? I got them second hand from a mom with twins about 8 months ago. So, they've been through 1.5 kid rotations. The elastic on those is starting to loosen up but they're still OK on my chunky thighed monkey. I suspect that they'll work when baby #2 is bigger.

ETA: The OsoCozy fitteds I have which were purchased on Craigslist and had gone through at least 1 other kid are holding up nearly as well as my prefolds. There's a little deterioration but nothing that affects how well they work. They'd probably make it through another 2 kids easily. Again, they're snaps. Velcro is a totally different story.

I'm glad those Sunbabies are holding up so well! I bought them last May, I think, and Addy wore them through the summer and into the school year, until about September.

Ha! Of all the problems we've had with BGs- we have NOT had these! Smile

So are mine. I have a set of "baby" sized Bummis prefolds at home that I think I might try on DD when I get back to the States. We tried to move from the infant sized to baby sized right away, and the baby sized were just RIDICULOUS on her. I had to fold them so much I couldn't fit them in a cover. But who knows...maybe they'll fit her now??? Guess we'll have to see. I love prefolds, and would not mind going back to them. DH and I were just talking last night about being excited about using our infant prefolds on the new baby soon. Smile

Oh, and I think I might have one or two velcro covers that are getting worn in the velcro area, but yeah, otherwise, they are all fine too.

I guess I should have been more specific in my question asking... whether or not there are pockets/AIOs that hold up for many kids.

I'm on my third kid in BG's, they have been great for us. That said I'm really strict to not use chemicals on them (never bleach them) and have never had to strip them. We converted them from velcro (as they were when we bought them years ago) to snaps. My dream eeze and goodmama fitteds have held up really well, though I'm on a second set of Thirsty and imse vimsy (sp?) covers.

My only complaint is that my 32 lb 19 month old seems to be growing out of them more quickly than my other kids did.

I know my 12 regular sized prefolds and 16 flats will easily last through a 2nd kid. Just need newborn diapers for the next and Beccasweet said if possible she'll send me hers. Smile I know the Mother's Ease Sandy's fitteds can survive another kid. We don't use them all that much, but they're in great condition. We have 3 Bitti Tuttos that still look new. No doubt they'll last a 2nd kid. My Blueberry diapers can be used for a 2nd, but not sure how long just because they're all clearance diapers that have small flaws. My 2 duo wraps from Thirsties can be used for a 2nd but they'll wear out during the 2nd. And my Kawaii mom label pockets while not in great condition are still in good enough condition to be used for another kid. These diapers have been our longest and most used though!
I have a fairly descent sized stash now so that helps. Wink

Oh, I LOVED my Dream-EZE. I got two as a gift, and they're the only diapers I put in my "juuuuuuust in case we decide on a #2 someday" box. I kept all my PFs because they're so useful for other purposes and gave away everything else--but as far as I know, they're all enjoying successful second lives.

Like I said, the only thing I ever threw out was those 3rd kid abused fitteds.

I may have to get some new flats for the next baby, but they are the second child they have been used on and in storage for 13 years between kids so thats not too bad. My pockets look like they will hold up through another baby too and I only use China Cheapies. I have some no real name brand and some babyland and Alva which have a pretty good reputation among CC's.

Wow, I'm impressed. Do you use BG pockets though? I think they might last longer than the AIOs. And you're lucky you found a good wash routine from the start and never had to strip... it hasn't been an option not to, for us!

Yes, pockets. The only AIO's I ever used were Thirstys and I hated them. My fuzzi buns, haute pockets and BG's have all lasted through three kids.

Oh...you know...maybe it was the Thirsties that got crunchy. I think I actually only had one BG. It was fine, but it was a NB size so we only used it a few times before DD outgrew it. Sorry--that was a long time ago! I only had small AIOs and didn't buy more as DD grew since I didn't like them (too expensive and take forever and a day to dry)

I doubt DS2 will be PT'd by the time the next baby comes along, so I will probably need to pretty much buy a second stash. But in any case, our Sunbabies have held up well, they should be reusable. I bought some Fuzzibunz used, so they have been through at least one child before DS and they are still in great condition, a little dingy and the elastics would need to be changed before using them on a new baby, but they still do their job. I bought some new as well and they still look new so they'd be reusable for sure. And the diapers I use for naps and nighttime (Kawaiia & RaRz) are used significantly less so they will definitely be able to be used for another baby too.
