Last night we filed our taxes with our tax person. With everything it camr to 218.00. Our refund should be in our bank account feb 8th which will be nice. I did ask our tax person about doing it ourself on this taxact program for 14.00. He said it would be fine for us to file our own if we wanted but he would miss us ( and our money i'm sure lol) But he said 14.00 compared to 218 is a big savings. So next year we will file ourself and see how it works!

Kebrina, I didn't realize you adopted. We have 2 adopted kids. We adopted from foster care, so we got the full tax credit for both kids last year. It was really nice, but they did audit us, and it took forever. (We filed in March and didn't get our refund until October.)

We filed our taxes this weekend and I can't wait to get the refund! We will have one less debt and will be able to bring our student loan down a HUGE amount! Woohoo! And it only took a couple hours and $14.

Yes Domestic Infant adoption and she is only 12days old So last year you got the refundable credit? We aren't sure if they are renewing the refundable for this year. I've heard it will be a straight credit.

Oh, I thought you were claiming the adoption credit for 2011. We adopted in 2010 and got the refundable credit. According to this website the credit is not refundable in 2012 for special needs. http://www.nacac.org/taxcredit/taxcredit20122013.html

I'm way late on seeing this thread, but thought I'd chime in anyway. DH always files our taxes. I think in the almost ten years we've been married, we've gotten a refund only twice, due to DH having his own business in addition to his "day job." Since we almost always have to pay, we can't afford to also pay an accountant to do the taxes. DH does a good job, though .

That's cool, Heather, that you DH does the taxes. Too bad about not getting any refunds. Maybe you need to have 5 kids, like I do. lol. I've been doing my own (our) taxes since my first job 20+ years ago. We've had some self-employment in there too, but not enough to owe anything, since they've been small amounts, and we had several kids at the time.
