IUI anyone?

Anybody else doing an IUI cycle this month? I would love to find a cycle buddy... the whole process has me a little bit intimidated!

I will be next cycle, not this one. Will you be doing any meds or monitoring?

Lots of both. First monitoring is Friday morning, and then they'll tell me dosages and stuff for meds. I'm working on psyching myself up for giving myself the shots. I hate needles!

I hear ya. I've only done clomid so far but next cycle will be injectables. Not looking forward to it all that much.

You will be two weeks ahead of me so I will definitely be following your progress!

We can compare notes! I'm starting to feel a little more positive about it than a few days ago. Just gotta go with it and see how it goes. Hopefully we'll both end up with nice, sticky BFPs!

Sounds like a plan! The IUI when I did it last March was easy. It's all the blood draws and meds and monitoring that are the sucky part.

Well, had the first round of b/w and u/s this morning. (Ran into another teacher from my school at the clinic, so apparently I have a cycle buddy REALLY close by. ROFL )

Everything was good from this morning, (lots of potentially good follies on both sides...u/s doc was showing me and telling me what I was seeing all the way through. She was AWESOME!) so took the first shot of Follistim tonight. Took me a good 10 minutes to actually get myself to stick that stupid needle in. Blum 3 I'm SUCH a wimp! But, once I did I was really surprised that the needle didn't really hurt at all. The stuff stung like mad for awhile afterward though. 4 nights of this dose, then back from more b/w and u/s on Tuesday.

Now to see how this stuff affects me. I'm so worried about getting overstimmed and having them cancel this cycle, or else getting OHSS later. Going to try to be aware without getting paranoid! Just have to wait and see. Wink

So, did you have any issues with fatigue? I had to drag myself out of bed this morning, and was crabby and irritable with DH through all the stuff we had to do. Finally broke down and had some caffeine around lunchtime which got me through a few hours. :coffee:Slept later in the afternoon for more than 2 hours. And now, I'm barely keeping myself awake again. Good thing I started this on a weekend! Hopefully I'll acclimate by Monday morning!

Which meds are you on? I only did Clomid and the only thing I had was headaches. I don't remember if I was more tired or not....

Follistim (injectable). Not quite as bad today but definitely still feeling it. That and tender bbs are really the only symptoms at this point. Hoping for good b/w & u/s tomorrow morning.

How was your b/w and u/s? Are the meds working? I'm crossing my fingers for some good follies for ya!

Well I'm finding they don't seem to be very specific with the info so far. But from what the dr doing the u/s said, i'm pretty bummed at the moment. 1 follie measuring 15. Everything else under 10. And that one is on the side that there is some debate about whether it is completely blocked or not. I could have done that without the stupid drugs! :dontknow: . They seem to be having some trouble seeing the other ovary clearly, so it is possible there is something there. But they didn't say anything about it.

Nurse says to keep taking same dose of Meds and go again on thurs for b/w and u/s again. We'll see what happens by then. If that is the only follie I end up with I might tell them to forget it for this month. If that tube is only a little open, i'm not really looking to up my risk of an ectopic just because they want to do a cycle anyway. Anybody have thoughts on whether more follies are likely to suddenly develop on the same dose of meds?

Oh darn. That sounds a little like me as well, but I think I wasn't the norm. I only ever got one follie once on clomid, always a little ahead of the others which never developed. But that was by CD14. If you are only CD9 I think that it's possible for a few more to catch up. I think they can grow 1-3mm per day? When do you usually O? Mature is anything after 16 or 18mm right? Does doing injects require a trigger always (I'm confused on that point).

I agree, if it's on the side that might have tube issues, I would probably not do the IUI if it were me. (I only have the left side so when I do injects next cycle if I get follies on the right, it's a no-go)

I can't wait to see what Thursday brings though! Crossing my fingers for more follies!

I'm hoping tomorrow shows some more action. I usually O around CD 15. They do have a trigger for the injectables. It sounded originally like I would be doing it somewhere around this weekend, so that it would be before I would O on my own. But it is possible for them to "miss" the O if they wait too long. My guess is that I'll know tomorrow what the plan will be. If I had to guess...same dosage, back on Saturday for monitoring with trigger Sat night and IUI Sunday and Monday. Given when I usually O, it would be risky to wait any longer than that. We'll see. Thanks for the good thoughts! Smile

*VENT AHEAD*

So frustrated...U/S this morning showed NO CHANGE! Still one follie at 15 on the right, and a ton below 10 on both sides. Are you kidding me? That was bad enough, and then the nurse calls and says same dosage and back again tomorrow for more b/w and u/s. What?!? Am I just spinning my wheels here or what? When something is obviously NOT working, how do you keep doing it without any change? Maybe I'm just expecting something to happen, and they've just written it off as not happening this cycle...move on to the next? :bangheaddesk:

OK...thanks for reading...end of vent. Never feeling rested is taking it's toll and making me impatient! :coffee:

ETA: So, it's a few hours later, I'm calmer now ( Biggrin ) and have been doing a bit of reading. Here's my question - The u/s docs have all talked about me having like a dozen

Grrr...that sucks. I was in the same boat with my second time on Clomid. I had little follies but no big ones and no response to meds!

Have they been giving your your Estrogen numbers by chance? Are they really high?

I don't know yesterday's or today's. Tues was 183. U/s this morning showed the one follie on the right was up to about 17. I really like the dr who was doing monitoring this morning, so I mentioned my concern about only seeming to have the one on that side, since that tube is iffy at best. They've been having trouble getting a good look at the left due to where it is located. But she really took a ton of time trying to get a good angle on it for a good look (I'd say she spent a good solid 5 minutes moving around and adjusting settings to try for clear images.) She said that she thought there was one developing on that side, but it was way far behind and she didn't think there was any chance it would catch up. I was SO thankful that she took the time and care to really look for me, though.

So, they are giving one more night of follistim tonight to let things do what they are going to do in terms of growth. Trigger tomorrow night, then IUI Sun and Mon. I'm not expecting much, and praying that I don't end up with an ectopic. But, they will finally be doing a mid-2WW progesterone check, which I am happy about. I don't know why they haven't done that one before. It's the last thing that could really be the problem. Beta on October 3rd, but I expect to be starting the next cycle 2 days before that. Hopefully they've at least learned enough from this cycle to help in the next one.

ETA: I was just updating my TTC Space, and I realized that if we somehow manage to get this this cycle, 17 is going to be my new lucky number. Cycle #17, 17mm follie, trigger on the 17th. How's that for a freaky number convergence?! Wink

I happily accept any luck I can get!

First IUI this morning. It went fine...although I can't say much for the dr's technique with the speculum. Had some spotting all day...I assume from the cervix being irritated. One more time tomorrow (which will probably be closer to actual O) and then we wait and see if my tube is blocked like the radiologist thinks, or open enough to work like the RE thinks.

How did the second IUI go? What was the folly status at the time of IUI?

I just got AF today so....I start meds on Friday! Eeek!

2nd IUI went fine. Better dr with the speculum, but more cramping with the rest. But, not bad at all.

They did NOT do any additional u/s with either IUI. I was a little surprised at that and wish I knew exactly where we were at. I go tomorrow to get my progesterone checked and we'll see what they say from there. I had a bit of cramping/discomfort on both sides, but that might just be from the trigger. :dontknow: Just have to wait and see from here.

Not glad to see AF showed, but it is exciting to be going on to the next steps for you. :goodluck:

ETA: Well, the nurse called really early with my results. Apparently my progesterone is only 7.4, which from my reading is quite low, especially for an injectables cycle. So, that could be a cause of all my cp's for sure. Have to take the 2nd hcg shot I have on the fridge. Is that a typical thing? I know it is their usual protocol, but really hadn't seen it in my reading.

Odd. I've never heard of a second HCG shot instead of projesterone supplements??

I thought it was kind of weird, too. I did quite a bit of research about it today. Most of the message board posts I found actually came from women working with the same practice I am with. It seems to be their standard protocol to do the progesterone testing quite early, and then if it is lower than what they are looking for, they do this 2nd HCG shot. They add progesterone supplementation after a beta (which is still scheduled for 10 days after the 2nd shot, so it should be out of my system and not affect their test.)

The really positive thing I found it that almost all of these postings came from women who got pg on that cycle or the next one or two afterward (with one exception currently in an IVF cycle) so I'm hoping that it is a protocol that they've figured out really works. We'll see. My post-O temps always go up, but they never really get all that high, and the dramatic temp drop I always get at the same point in the cycle (even on the CP's) has made me wonder if there could be a progesterone issue going on.

ETA: So, are you ready for the shots? How did the first one go?

After my IUI, 2 days later I started taking progesterone, a week after the IUI they checked the levels. Every clinic's different probably... and I only had one HCG shot. (P.S. No more IUI's for me, I'm moving onto donor eggs IVF).

Good luck Jean!!! Fingers crossed for you! Smile

Thanks! I saw your post on the 2+ board about moving on to donor IVF. I guess you feel comfortable with the new practice...I'm glad. Smile I hope that it is just the ticket for you and your family. I've got everything crossed for you, too! It's time for both of us! :bigarmhug:

The new clinic is really wonderful, they're so friendly, don't mind kids with us. The early wake up is a killer (as you know) but we manage and got this routine of bringing cereal bars & such with us. I think being at the right clinic makes a world of difference, I kind of wished I would have known about them sooner.

I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for your BFP! Smile

I totally hear you about the early mornings...I feel like I'm ALWAYS beat, and I'm looking forward to not going at all this week. Smile I'm so glad you are happy with them, and that they are making it easy to balance this TTC craziness with your family. As for the timing, sometimes we find what we need exactly when we need it. I'm hoping that is the case for you!

Early mornings are rough, I've been taking my showers at night to save time. Some mornings we were up there at 6:30 but most times 7:30. Luckily the clinic I go to has a Dunkin Donuts and a Starbucks in town, haha.

Glad you get a week off! Smile

Ahhhhh....coffee...nectar of the gods. Wink I've had way too much the last few weeks, after giving it up for awhile during this whole TTC process. (I decided it didn't help anyway, so I'd indulge on my early mornings!) Between DD, Starbucks and this little place in Morristown called Greenberry's, it has made the early mornings just a bit happier.

Never heard of Greenberry but I only know a wee bit of Morristown (like the library area). Sometimes I drink a Carnation breakfast drink or Ensure, the sugar helps.

I just ordered some zip fleece tops for winter. Easy on/off for blood work and right now Old Navy has some cute ones for $22 but order a size up since they are a bit form-fitting (even the sleeves were snug, so I got a M versus S). Can you tell I'm ready for another go at trying to get knocked up! Smile

Greenberry's is actually right on the Green...I think it's only been there a few years. When they took down Epstein's Department store (and Starbucks with it) I think that is when they opened up. Starbucks now finally reopened, but given the choice of them or a good, "local" joint, I'm all over buying from the local!

Hehehe...I love how you are planning ahead. Good ideas, too. When I went last week for my b/w, it was cool and I had a jacket with me. I was actually thinking "Hmmmm....how am I going to do this when it is sweater time?" Cardigans over short sleeves for school for awhile for me, I guess. May have to go check out Old Navy, though. Wink

Here's to us both getting knocked up! ROFL

I like fleece over sweaters because I tend to snag 'em and ruin them, silly me I know! Too much rushing around.

I forgot to ask, when is your Beta?

I hear that! I have this one nice, open weave vest cardigan I've worn once or twice so far this year on the cooler days. I was catching that darn thing on everything I went past!!! So annoying, but I'll wear it again because I like it. Biggrin

Beta is Monday. Based on how my cycles usually go, I'll have my answer before I get there. Generally speaking, I would start spotting Sunday night, and have a light flow Monday morning. Occasionally lately, that has been off by a day or so, so you never know. I wasn't temping the first half of this cycle, so I don't know positively when I O'd, so I could be off a little. We'll see what happens!
