I always say that miracles can happen.......DH and I are definitely living a miracle right now.
Ellen....Julia is so sweet. OH MY GOSH! You are so lucky!
So I had my 30 week appointment today, it went pretty well. Growth is right on and the baby has a great hb- 148. The doctor thinks that we should retest for gd periodically. I am no longer sure where I stand regarding that, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Also, my group b strep test came back postiiveOf course, if it's not one thing, it's another, isn't it. This basically means when I go into labor I have to be hooked up to iv antibiotics. I'm not sure of the logistics of it yet, I have only started thinking of the questions I'd like to ask now. I did mention some desire to not be hooked up to an iv the entire time I'm in labor and doc said something about a hep lock, so that's something at least. I think the docs in my area are somewhat progressive when it comes to more natural births. This is encouraging. Oh, and I have another u/s coming up, to see if the baby has given up his/her breech position. I asked what the policy was on breeches, and he said that if the baby couldn't be turned, he would not be willing to do anything but a c-section BUT the obgyn at another hospital might be willing to attend a vaginal breech birth. But that's getting WAY ahead of myself, especially since I'm pretty sure I've felt some feet pushing on my ribs lately lol. Anyways, I'm working on my list of questions regarding the birth, and especially the group b strep thing, which I will be asking at my next appointment in 2 weeks.
Wow Mel.......I know of a girl that had the strep b come back positive, she had to get to the hospital right away when labour started so they could hook her up. I hope your docs are respectful of your deisre to not be hooked up the whole.
other than that sounds like a good update![]()

That is what I'm worried about too! With Michaela, I was in labor for about 12 hours, in the hospital for the last 4, hooked up to an iv the whole time. I was hoping to basically come in pushing (well at least close to) this time, but that seems unlikely nowI'm going to ask at my next appointment if I can be given antibiotics now, and retest at 36 weeks. I would really like to avoid spending hours laboring in the hospital if at all possible.
I found this info on Group B strep. I've never heard of anyone getting antibiotics before hand. I have only heard of women being hooked up to the IV while they are laboring and giving birth. The risk of the baby getting Strep B from you is fairly high from what I've read. Here are some websites:

http://www.dhpe.org/infect/strepb.html

I just googled - Group B Strep pregnancy and got tons of info. Doesn't hurt to read it and come up with some more questions!
Good luck. I know you want to go as natural as possible so I'm hoping a compromise can be made.
Melissa...I too had GBS. It is very important to have the antibiotics started 4 hours prior to birth...so they may want to start them pretty quickly since they wont know how long your labor will be. I'd be careful about opting for less or doing something alternative...GBS can cause terrible things in babies, like blood infections and such. It is not serious in the mother, but can be very serious in newborns if they are exposed to the bacteria during delivery. Best of luck to you...I hope you are still able to have the delivery that you want even with the IV.![]()
Thanks EllenOf course, I wouldn't do anything to put my baby at risk. I am just trying to see what my options are- If I'm stuck with the iv, if it's the only choice, well I will accept that for the well being of my baby. IF it comes down to the birth I want, or a healthy baby, well there is no contest. I would do pretty much anything for my baby's health
