I know I haven't posted here in quite a while, but I do lurk occationally. I came here fully expecting that Melissa would have had her baby by now!!! WHERE IS THAT BABY?!?! Melissa, I have been thinking about you. I can't wait to hear an update!
Hi everybodySorry I kept you all on pins and needles- I had my baby! Wednesday morning I went in for the fetal heart monitor at 8 am and my doc said my cervix was ripe, so he stripped my membranes and applied some prostaglandin gel. I stayed to be monitored for an hour and had 2 mild contrax. We went out for dinner, and I was contracting, but mildly. I was really uncomfortable though- feeling lots of pressure. We took the dog for a walk around 11am, hoping to help the contractions get stronger, and then Michaela came home from preschool. The contractions were not getting stronger at all, but I was still feeling lots of pressure, so at 2pm I decided to take a nap, just in case it turned out to be a slow labor. I got up at 4:30, and to my disappointment, the contractions had stopped, and the pressure was gone. I told dh, and phoned my family to tell them it was a false alarm and that the baby probably would not arrive until at least Thursday night. Chad and Michaela ate supper, but I had no appetite, and we made plans to take Michaela to rent some movies. At 6, my back started to ache a bit, so I decided to take a warm bath. At 6:30, I had 2 contractions, not painful, but definitely stronger than the ones that morning, and then POP! my water broke. I got out of the tub and went out into the hallway trying to wrap myself in a towel. You always hear that when you are standing up, the baby's head will move down and amniotic fluid will not leak too badly. Not true. I had to put the towel on the floor under me, and call Chad that my water had broken and we had to get to the hospital- I was hit with a doozy of a contraction- I had to get down on my hands and knees because it was so intense I felt dizzy. Within 10 minutes of my water breaking, we were at the hospital. I had 3 extremely strong contractions as the nurse hooked me up to the fetal monitor and an iv of antibiotics. Then I felt the urge to push. I told the nurse that I was pushing and everyone was telling me to stop, that it would make my labor worse, etc. When a contraction ended, the nurse finally checked me and said "She's ready!" My doctor was not in the hospital, so they had to call the nearest doctor, because there was no time to wait. They set up the birthing bed- which is really neat, because it tips up, and there are foot rests that help you get into a modified, supportive squatting position, and the doctor quickly got his gown on, I'm pushing the entire time. One more contraction, and the baby's head started to crown. OWWW now I know what they mean by "ring of fire"! And when the contraction ended I could'nt push anymore, and I felt the head slip back in. That really sucked because not only would I have to start over on the next contraction, I also know that this was really, really going to hurt! On the next contraction, I bore down as hard as I possibly could, pushing through the pain, knowing there was only one way to end it, and that was to have the baby out as fast as possible. I felt the head come out and there was some relief- I heard my friend Kelly, who works at the hospital say "Melissa, you can look down and see the head!" But I could not open my eyes. It was time to push out the shoulders, and getting that over with was all I could focus on. I pushed again through the pain, and felt the relief as the shoulders came out and the rest of the baby slid out after that. My mom made it into the room just in time to see the baby's legs come out lol! That is how fast it all happened! I looked down at my baby, hearing the first cries, and I got to announce to the room the baby's sex! It was a beautiful moment
We had some trouble getting the placenta out- it just didn't want to detach right away, so they had to give me a shot of oxytocin. I had no tearing! All in all, it was an excellent birth experience, so fast it was nearly scary, but perfect anyway, and ending with a happy, healthy mom and baby.
So, I would like to announce that at 7:29pm, on April 11th, weighing 8lbs, 14oz, our new baby
SON! Cannon Richard was born!
So that is my birth story- sorry it was so long, and thanks if you made it through! Cannon is crying now, so I'm going to quickly xpost this and then go feed himI'll be back with more soon!
OMG (((((((((((Melissa)))))))))))))
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!![]()
