When would you go back to the doctor? UPDATE post #5

Hi, my name is Dawn and DH and I are currently TTC #2. Before I got pregnant with DS #1 I was diagnosed with Unexplained Infertility. We TTC #1 for a little over a year before consulting the doctor and it took about 18 cycles before we got a BFP.
Some history:

- HSG – normal
- DH’s SAs – first: not great, second: normal
- Hysteroscopy with biopsy (the biopsy was not successful due to my tilted uterus and closed cervix)
- Exploratory laparoscopic surgery: revealed a bleeding cist which was removed from one of my ovaries and an adhesion that was removed from one of my tubes

Just two cycles after the surgery I got pregnant. However, the doctor said that the surgery may have helped me get pregnant but not necessarily.

So here we are now TTC #2 and I really don’t want to wait two years again. How many cycles should I go through before I call the doctor again? If we hadn’t gotten pregnant right away after that surgery I’m not sure what would have been the next step for us. Maybe Clomid? IUI? I’m just not sure.

I should add that when I went in for my yearly OB visit in June '11 my doctor suggested we do the lap surgery again to see if there's anything he can clean up and at that time he could make sure my tubes are clear, etc. I just hesitate to just go under the knife - - just because. YKWIM?

I read your post and your story is very very similar to mine! I also conceived DD#1 after a LAP surgery - and removal of some adhesions. When we decided to try for #2 we did the whole clomid thing again - to no avail. I then pressed the doc to re-perform the surgery since it was so successful the first time. He did, removed some adhesions that had grown back - but to no avail. We then moved and I found a new RE who strait away put me on injectables and we did IUI with it. First time it worked - and now I have DS.

Just to add to story: DH and I had decided that we were done. We didnt want to have to do any more surgeries and I didnt want to have to take anymore hormones. We didnt exactly prevent but I thought for sure i could not get pregnant on my own since we tried for SO many years. Well, surprise - I ended up naturally pregnant this past spring and I am due with an unexpected #3 in January. I guess I am just telling you my story because I dont want you to lose hope. And just because one thing does not work, does no mean that something else wont!

Exactly this. dawn you know my story so you know ANYTHING is possible. My advice is just go to the doctor and talk it out...never hurts to have a game plan even if its just to TTC for a while longer on your own.

Ventana - Thank you so much for sharing your story. I'll have to talk to DH this weekend and make a decision on what to do. I think I "know" surgery is probably the right way to go but....it's still so hard. IDK

Jenn - You're story is amazing and I'm so happy that you were able to conceive naturally.

I haven't given up hope, but the timiming of things is what worries me. I'm not getting any younger! LOL

I finally called today and made an appointment with my doctor. I seriously doubt we will get pregnant on our own and don't want to wait years like last time. I sure hope he can help us give DS a sibling. Get this - I couldn't get an appointment unitl Nov 28! Crazy. I'm glad I called.
