My grandpa passed away early this morning...

I'm new here. My grandfather was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (pancoast tumor) on June 7th of this year. They told him that without treatment he was looking at 2 years, but the pain would get unbearable. However, with treatment, it could control the pain and he'd be looking at 5-15 years. He started treatment (rad & chemo 4 days/week) at the end of June. Well, he's got diaticulitis (sp?) also which complicated things...anything he ate came right out so he wasn't getting nutrients. He was admitted into the hospital two weeks ago this past Wednesday and was given a blood tranfusion because his iron level was down to 0, his potassium and magnesium were dangerously low too. They even had to put him on oxygen. Well, this past Wednesday, the doctor said there was nothing furthey they could do and sent him home "to die". Well, he unfortunately lost his battle early this morning in his home. This is the first person close to me to pass away. I just don't know what to do. My mom was there when he passed and obviously isn't doing well at all. Any tips on what I can do for my mom and grandma? He was only 65 years old! Anyhow, if you made it this far, thanks. I guess I just needed a place to talk with people who understand and have been through this before. Please keep my family and I in your thoughts and prayers. I'm just glad he's in heaven now and not suffering any more...no more pain. Sad

I m very sorry for your loss. Cancer is really a harmful disease and can't left anybody who diagnosed with this problem. I understand your feelings. Your grandfather needs good treatment and then he alive more time.
My friend's mother also died with lung cancer last year. She had also fighting with her pain for some years. In the end she got relief from her pain after death. Anyway death is the reality of our life and death spares nobody. Be strong and go ahead.
God Bless you.
