Allergies???

Hunter has a runny nose since beginning of June. It's been 1 month and a half now. When I say runny nose, I should say his nose is running like a faucet:(
I have to make him blow his nose every 2 minutes (seriously). It is crazy. Usually it's yellow (light green) and thick in the morning and it gets a little more liquid and lighter during the day. It stops at night when he sleeps but start back when he gets up in the morning.
I don't think it's an infection because he doesn't have a fever. He throat looks ok (no puss or anything) and he doesn't complain of being soar anywhere.
It's just this constant runny nose that is driving me (and him) crazy. He wipes his nose everywhere (on the couch, his clothes, my clothes, EVERYWHERE!!).
Should I bring him to the doctors??? Do you think it could be allergies (pollen and outside??).....
Poor kid, we go through a roll of toilet paper a day just for his nose!!!

I would defiantly bring it up with the doctor. A months is a long time to have a runny nose like that.

I would get him checked out, too. A month is a long time to deal with that mess!

Poor thing!! I really hope he's better soon!

I wouldn't take him to the ER for that. Does your doc not have someone filling in for him while on vacation? You would think that they would have some sort of temporary replacement if they are on vacation for that long! If not, do you have Urgent Care Centers or something similar? That's what I would do if my ped was not an option but it wasn't really an emergency.

No, when my doc takes vacation (which is often:() he doesn't have a replacement.....
if something is wrong, we have to go to the ER.
I live in a small town (6 000 persons) and all we have is family doctor option or just go to the ER... so
I feel like going but I wish I could see his doctor instead of some random ER doctor who won't take this as an emergency (which I totally understand!).....

Yeah, for just a runny nose I wouldn't take him in to the ER. If he doesn't seem too bothered by it you could just wait. You could buy some Claritin and try it for a couple days to see if it helps, they sell it otc.

((Lurking))

Zayden CONSTANTLY has a runny nose and has since he was almost 1. In fact, for the first time ever, he has not had one in the last three weeks....just started up again last Thursday.

I don't know if I totally agree with this but I brought up the issue of allergies with his doctor at the 2 and 2.5 year visits and he told us that allergies rarely affect kids this age? He told me at least with Z its cause of daycare and he is around a lot of other kids so he was constantly sick.

I did google it and one difference between a cold and allergy is if the mucus from the nose is yellow/green its a cold while allergies would be clear.

We have to watch Z closely because these "colds" or whatever they are have turned into sinus infections twice.

Hope he feels better soon!

I say definitly get him to a pediatrician, only because the mucous has a color. That's usually the sign of an infection of some kind. My son has had a constant runny nose since he was about three years old (he's six now) that's just due to allergies (children's Claritin helps!) but it's always clear...

Has he had his adenoids out? Jocelyn dripped snot all day, every day until she had her adenoids taken out (when she got tubes in her ears). It stopped that day and hasn't happened again since.

oh yah, I remember Jocelyne going through surgery for that...
Yes Hunter still have his adenoids. His runny nose stopped after almost 2 months !!!! Must have been a virus or allergies??!! Don't know but it started the first weekend of June and stopped end of July..... urgggg glad it's over and done with!
I'll see next summer if it's the same I'll know it's allergies and will do something about it.
