How much sleep is your Sugar Plum getting?

Kate is killing me with these early mornings. She used to get up around 7:00, which was fine with me. Now she's up between 6:00 and 6:30. Not so nice when when I'm up with the baby during the night. She takes a 2-hour nap in the afternoon, occasionally 3 hours. She goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:00. So that's about 12 hours, total. Is that normal?

Last night she went down at 7:55 and got up 3 times, the last being at 9:15. I heard her at 4:00 coughing and she was up for the day at 6:25. I don't see how she's functioning. That just doesn't seem like enough sleep. I have tried putting her to bed earlier and later and she continues to get up early. Oh, and when she's getting up at 9:15 and I go to bed at 9:30 (to try to get in 8 hours myself) it makes for a very non-relaxing evening when that's what I need the most when there are 2 toddlers and a baby in the house! I am starting to get angry about this getting up several times at bedtime. How do you deal with that?

She is probably regressing because of the change with Anderson. When Tobey was born, about 3 weeks after he stopped sleeping. For about 2 months...he wouldn't nap, wouldn't go to bed and was up around 4.30. And getting up 3/4 times in the night with the baby too...I was pooped.

I eventually just stopped trying to get him to nap and now he's in bed by 6.30 and is usually up somewhere between 5.30-6.30. For a few days its been 5am wake up but he's been ill. But yeah, 12 hours but all at night, he doesn't nap

ETA, DH is up for 6 to go to work, I did try and get him in bed for 7.30 so he'd be up for 7 but as soon as he heard DH in the morning he was up, so I gave up Smile

Yeah, sounds about normal to me. I know that is hard w/ a new baby. Lily normally goes to bed between 9 and 10 and is up around 8 or 9. She also takes a 2 - 3 hr nap in the afternoon. But for some reason Thurs - Sat she was up at 7 am! I think I made such a big deal about her potty training and getting to be a big girl that she couldn't sleep anymore and got up early.

I don't have a problem w/ Lily getting up at night, but I think it's b/c I've set the expectation w/ her that even if she does get up she is not coming out of her room. It used to work b/c she couldn't open the door herself and there was no way I was going in to get her until I was ready to in the morning. Now she just doesn't, but if I did have a problem w/ it, I wouldn't hesitate to turn her doorknob around so I can lock her in at night. This may be a bit extreme for some, but you got to do what works sometimes!

Oh, and I know how you feel about needing time to relax after they are in bed. It doesn't matter how tired I am, I usually end up staying up until midnight or later b/c I just HAVE to have me time at some point during the day. I go crazy w/o it, so I end up giving up a little sleep. I wish I could have both, but it doesn't work out that way. Then usually 1 night a week I end up crashing immediately after their bedtime and catching up a bit.

Luke will stay up as late as he is allowed for the most part. We try to get the kids in bed by 9 at the latest, but sometimes it gets stretched until 10! Luke is up at the crack of dawn as well... 6-6:30. It is killing me! I do have to say tho, that Luke does go down easier and earlier at night if he has not napped, or only had a very short nap. Problem is, he NEEDS at 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon or he is beyond cranky... so its like being between a rock and a hard place. But no matter what, he gets up as soon as the sun is up, and that changes with the seasons.

Oh and he also gets up multiple times before he stays down for good.

Claire is always up between 6-6:30, no matter what time she goes to bed. Bedtime is between 7:30-8. She goes into her room at this time, and most of the time she'll get out of bed and play a bit in her room before she goes to sleep, but she puts herself back into bed once she's tired and goes to sleep no problem. She almost NEVER wakes in the night.

Napping is another story altogether. Some days she naps for 1.5-2 hours, and some days she doesn't nap at all. The non-napping days are getting more and more frequent, I think she's starting to transition out of naps already Sad She's never been a particularly good napper though. I usually make it to bed at about 10, so DH and I get some quiet, no baby time for only about 1-2 hours a day, but it's better than nothing.

I'm having a lot of insomnia with this pregnancy, so I'm much more tired than usual, but it's not because of Claire's sleeping habits. I wonder what will happen when the new baby comes though.

Jocelyn usually settles down and falls sleep by around 9:00 pm. She usually wakes up somewhere around 8:00 am. Her nap is usually around 2 hours long.

We work under the closed-door system. Door closes after bedtime routine, and door does not get opened until 8:30 am. In the middle, she's on her own. She can sleep, play, scream, climb, whatever she wants to do, but we go off duty once we shut her door. We are able to have some peaceful time in the evenings and get a full night's sleep.

We have them on a late schedule on purpose. Next year when Jocelyn goes to preschool, we'll have to get her up around 7:30, so bedtime will move back to 8:00 pm and then the morning rule will be that we don't go in before 7:30 am.

I totally get wanting some peaceful adult time after the kids go to bed. I cherish those hours, and always end up staying up later than I should just to enjoy the peace and calm. Smile

It really depends on what shift I am working. If I am on the day shift I have to be at work for 7am. Makenna goes to bed around 8pm and gets up to go to the sitters at 6am. On those days she will have a longer nap in the afternoon.... 2.5 to 3 hours.

When I work nights she goes to bed around the same time and gets to sleep in until 7:30 or 8 am. When I get home she gets ready for the sitter's and then I get to go to bed! When I work nights she tends to have a shorter nap.

Your kid sleeps better than mine, but I am not getting up in the night with a baby... and my hubby helps... so not so big a deal around here. I feel for you. Sending some sleepy vibes your way!!

Connor's bedtime is 10pm (I know its later that "normal", but because of my school schedule, it works for us!)
He normally wakes up around 9:30am. The last week or so he has started waking up EARLY, around 6 or 7am. I finally realized that with the season change and it getting light earlier, it was waking him up. So I put a black sheet over his blinds, and viola! Sleeping till 10! Smile When he naps, he only naps about 30 minutes, occasionally he will drag it out to an hour, but thats rare.

Ryken STTN fine, but he wakes between 5-6am every morning. He goes to bed at 8. I feel like he would be much happier if he would just sleep a little longer. There are mornings where he'll lay around the living room for an hour before asking to eat, so I know he's still tired. He does nap for 2-3 hours which I think helps.

It depends on if Liberty takes a nap. Either way I swear she's up until 11pm or 12AM, and it's killing me! If she takes a nap, she'll be up by 8AM... but if she doesn't take one she'll sleep until 10AM or 11am... now if I can just get her to go to bed earlier!
