So Luke's follow up speech appt with his PED was last Thurs,,, Believe it or not, this past week I have noticed a definitely improvement in the amount of speech that I can understand from him... which I told the PED. DH didn't think so much, but he had been out of town this past week. I can make out more phrases that he is trying to say. Granted, probably only me and DH can make them out but that's got to be good, right? The PED did ask if we felt that 50% of what he could say could be made clear to strangers, and I said definitely not. So a speech therapist at our hospital was consulted, HOWEVER. Little did we know, this speech therapist is leaving our hospital very soon, and I am not sure if or who will be taking her place. So I am at a loss of whether or not to push for speech therapy for just wait it out. I can definitely understand more and more of what he is saying... he is definitely indicating in words more and more what he wants, but I am not sure if we are missing a window of opprotunity by giving up this consult with a speech therapist. He definitely can follow commands, so I do not think this is a mental delay or a neurological thing at all... I think mostly it is that he is just lazy and knows that we anticipate what he wants and that we can somehow read minds.... Anyways, I know this sounds like a rambling, but I know others are in the same boat and am just wondering what you are all choosing to do about it.
Luke can name different things:
Dash (dog) "Dah"
Buddy (dog) " Buh-d"
He can say some commands. More and more we are recognizing each day. I don't want to put him through any more stress than what he needs. So anyways, any advice is appreciated!
