Plane rides

Who's gone on plane rides with their LO's? How old were they and did you get them their own seat? Did you use the carseat in the seat?

We're taking a family trip with my mom's side of the family next March and Sully will be 20 months, so he could still be a lap child. We are most likely going to Mexico so the plane ride wouldn't be too long from Tulsa....maybe 2 hours. The trip is going to be free for us, so I guess it wouldn't matter too much for us if we just got him a seat, but I wonder if he'd even sit still in it or we'd have to bring the car seat....same goes for Ryken I suppose. Would we want to bring a booster for him on the plane?

They fly for free under 2... so you'll have to buy a ticket for Ryken and he will have his own paid seat. The baby can sit in your lap and you won't have to buy a ticket. You can take car seats on the plane, they have to meet a certain requirement... but most do if they are current. If you want the baby to be in a carseat, you will have to buy a seat.

When we took Luke on the plane he was just under 2 so he rode free and did fine in our laps... I don't think he would have tolerated a car seat well.

Will you check in your car seats anyway? If so, you could take Ryken's booster on the plane. It is a PITA though taking carseats... we had an awful time on our trip to MI, but we had to do it, you know?

Hi There!

We have taken lots of plane rides and have both held him and paid for a seat. (now that he is two we don't have a choice obviously) for us it was FAR easier to have him in a car seat. As long as he is strapped in, he knows hes stuck (though he might wail for a bit) but he settles down, plays with our phones, looks at books etc, If he is not strapped in or when he was a lap baby, he was a nightmare cause he wanted to run, walk, go, play, crawl under the seats (get yelled at by flight attendants and nearby passengers) etc.

It sucks to take a car seat through the airport and deal with that but for us it was much easier. Our last flight before he turned two was one hour so we didn't buy a seat but even that was tough for us. When we go somewhere again though, we will definitely take his car seat so we can strap him in. (course then sometimes the car seats are huge and then they wind up kicking the moron in the seat in front of you that HAS to recline his seat ALL the way back so if you have a choice try to get the first row of seats Smile )

I think we would bring the carseats.....I'm not sure what our transportation would be from the airport to our resort. I'm guessing we'll get a ticket for Sully, I just wanted to see what everyone else's experiences have been. I know Ryken would have been a terror to have sit on our laps at that age.

I've only taken DS#2 on a plane and he was about 4 months old, so we just held him. He did really well, no crying or fussing at all. We checked the stroller/carseat at the gate and it was waiting for us at baggage claim when we arrived.

Kaiya has flown 7 times at 6 months, 1.5, 2 and last week. Flying with her on my lap was easy as we just played a bit and she fell asleep. This last time she had her own seat though so it was a whole 'nother story! I got her some new toys and some treats (I have each time). I had emergency chocolate which saved me a couple of times! I thought she would like the tv but she didn't care. She did love to play on the floor in front of her seat. I had her in the window seat so there wasn't anywhere that she could go. If you can put Ryken in the window seat and kind of block him in a bit then he can have a little room to move. That really helps. I would check the carseats as they can be a PITA getting on and off the plane. The seatbelt fit Kaiya quite well without one and it gave us both more room and less hassle.

Good luck!
