March chat thread

Well thought I'd start up a new chat thread since Feb has now passed and out of sight!

I started back at uni last week and Taine started daycare. He was an absolute gem apparently, he didn't even bat an eyelid when I said goodbye and left on the Monday Sad I managed to hold it together but he was constantly on my mind while i was in lectures. Learning is hard work, I had forgotten what was involved like getting up at 6am and leaving by 7am to get to an 8am lecture!

I'm waiting for AF to show up, shes 5 days late and I've had cramping the last 5 or so days. If she isn't here tomorrow I will be testing. Baby wasn't on the cards this year, but we can shuffle things round if im preg.

Hey there! I am glad to hear that Taine has been good at daycare. Good for you going back to university!!! It will be a big benefit to you and the family when you're done. I am so glad I am done with college-hubby just started his PhD program at a college about 3 hours away. He is a remote student, so he doesn't have to go there often (which is good, because right now a round trip there and back will cost us a whole tank of gas, about $80-this week, we'll see next week what happens with gas prices!!)

I hope that the test comes out how you hope it does. We're at the point where we want another baby, so we aren't either preventing or trying actively. My BIL is getting married next march, and wants both my guys in the wedding, so we have to plan around that, as the wedding is in florida, and travelling when very pregnant will probably not be in the cards for me!

Sorry I've been so scarce-I have been super busy with my little business, but I often read on the posts here. I'll try to be better with that. Plus this past week, Jack's been sick and we've been doing nebulizer tx, and then I was feeling under the weather and so was dh.

Things are good here, I am just getting anxious to get outside again as its been a LONG, cold winter!!

Anne we are getting so anxious to go outside too! Sometimes it is hard to keep these boys cooped up, they are always going to the door and pointing at the handle and saying "uh, uh, uh" because they want me to open it! That's good that your hubby doesn't have to travel alot for school - gas is killing us here too. I'm almost on empty but it is $3.50 a gallon...

Congrats Nicole! You guys will make it work - if we can work it out with two kids, anybody can! How exciting!

I've actually been feeling nauseous and yucky for the past few days and I am PRAYING that it is the stomach flu. I'd take that any day over another pregnancy! On another note, and you guys will probably think I'm nuts, but I have actually begun to relactate - pumping again so the boys can have breastmilk. I figure, why not, I have it, and it's free, and it's so good for them. Now that they have a more predictable schedule, pumping is easier.

OK, gotta go, the boys are yelling.

Anne - what's your DH getting his PhD in? I've thought about looking for a program my hesitation is that most non-full time programs (where you're not full time and covered by a grant etc) are generally so expensive. I have no debt from my MBA b/c work paid 75% but work won't pay for a PhD and I cringe at 30K in loans a year. But oddly sometimes I miss school I spent some time looking for quality part time doctoral programs in business a while back but lost interest

Nicole -- WHHHAAATT Smile I see your siggy changed! Details please Smile Congrats!

Leah - good for you on the relactating! Evan still nurses before bed it seems to work for us not sure when we'll cut it out but for now he's happy so it works

AFM on teh ttc front not really trying or preventing. I think (just bc I know my body) we missed the egg this month but I didn't use OPKs or temp so I'm not certain. I think in April/May if we haven't gotten preg JLIH I'll be a bit more proactive

Yeah it's official, I'm knocked up! I tested last night and the lines appeared within seconds so Im due somewhere at the start of November. Its come as quite a surprise and we are going to have to shuffle things around.

Leah - Not crazy at all, sometime I wish Taine was still breastfed.

Anne - Your business looks like it's booming. How is the web design going?

Katie - Oh I do hope you caught that eggie, would be neat to be on same BB!

Congrats Nicole! I knew when you said you weren't feeling good the other day (and it wasn't a hangover)!!
That's really exciting. I'm sure things will work out just fine with school and what-not. I also saw that you were looking for a Justice of the Peace. Does that mean you two are getting married?

Nicole- Congrats! Things will work out. They always do. A new baby is so exciting.

Katie- Say no to the Ph.D.! Lol Unless it guarantees a lot in terms of benefits and pay, it just isn't worth the effort. That is my opinion, but I've been there, done that. I am considered ABD or all but dissertation (there is a very LONG story to that and I don't have the time to tell it). I will say that I went straight from my bachelors to my master's, then Ed.S, then Ph.D. program. I am so done with school. I hate even doing work for my continuing education for my licensure. Biggrin

Anne- Good luck to your hubby on his Ph.D. I am sorry to hear that Jack has been sick. Bummer. Sad I saw that you had a lot of snow overnight or this weekend. Boo for snow in March. I am so ready for spring!!! Bring on the warmer temps and sunshine. May and June cannot come fast enough. I am already buying the kids swimwear for the summer. We are gearing up for our swimming season. DS is going back to swimming lessons starting tomorrow.

Leah- I hope you start feeling better. Sad My girls don't even know what it is like to play outside. They are not walking and we are certainly not going anywhere in the weather we have been having. Ice, snow, torrential rains and flooding. It is like the ground isn't sure if it should be frozen, covered in snow, or saturated with water and all muddy. This spring on the soccer field is going to be cold and messy, I bet. I am not looking forward to that at all.

AFM- I had to take Sarafina to our ped's after hours clinic yesterday. I am thankful we have this option. It is awesome. Unfortunately, Sarafina has a double ear infection, a sinus infection, and pink eye in both eyes. We are waiting for Keira to get pink eye. Sad That is the sucky part of having twins (or as Leah would say, that is the lame part of having twins Smile ). We had no idea she had a double ear infection. She was not acting sick at all. She never had a fever, did not pull on her ears, and never fussed. I just took her in for her eyes. So, she is on Augmentin again. Boo! Sad

I got to go shopping this weekend. I had a girls' night out with two friends and we drove near Indianapolis to go shopping. I had a gift card from my mom from Christmas. I was able to get 5 shirts and some jewelry with the gift card. Yay! Biggrin It was fun to actually buy some new things for myself. Now, it is time to continue outfitting the munchkins for spring. They still need some pants, since they are finally outgrowing what they have.

Lame indeed! That totally sucks Mel. I'm glad you took her in though, and they found the ear infections so they can treat them. Ugh I remember when Gabe got the stomach flu, and it was just an awful waiting game to see when Isaac would start puking too. Yuck.

Gotta go, laptop battery is dying. More later!

Boo on sick babies and sick mommies.

YAY for preggo mommies! Congrats Nicole. Jack and I have not really been preventing and I just noticed that our weekend fun lined up with my o time this weekend, so we shall see. Kinda hoping for a yes at this point...maybe a couple more romps just to make sure! LOL!

Katie-Jack's getting his PhD in something related to Cyber security. You've probably heard of the college-Clarkson, its up near Canada. His company is paying for it 100% AND when he starts the reseach phase (probably early next year, as he only has 2 more classes to take), he will be able to do that AS his work, and step down from his current Program Manager role at work. Sweet.

Leah-good for you! If the milk is free and healthy for the boys, why not? I am so thankful Jack is off the formula-that was EX.PEN.SIVE!!!!

Melanie-I hope the girls get better soon. They've had lots of ear infections, haven't they? Poor honies.

Alisa-aren't you guys moving soon? I saw the pics on FB of your new house-it looks gorgeous. Smile Congrats!

Okay-yes, a bit of snow was predicted for last night. Yesterday started out at near 50* with rain, and all of our snow was gone. Then it started sleeting, and snowing. We were supposed to get 8-12 inches. WELL, we wake up this morning, normal time and everything because normally we don't have to shovel or dig out the driveway to get out in the morning, just pop the truck in 4wd and go--NOPE. Not today. We got over 2 feet of snow, most overnight, and the mouth of the driveway was probably up over 3, closer to 4 feet because of the plows. It took my poor hubby over 2 hours to clean out the driveway. He also had to make a runway for the dog because he sunk when he went to pee. I posted pics on my FB page. Crazy. I am done with winter. Gah.

Okay-time to go pick up the toys from the tornado, er, toddler....

Anne- Actually, they both have only had one ear infection each. This is Sarafina's second ear infection. They just had lingering sinusitis and Sarafina's ear infection would not resolve itself with antibiotics, so they were both on several rounds of antibiotics from October to December. I think with all of the rounds of antibiotics, it has seemed like they have had a ton of ear infections. At least, that is how it has seemed to me. I had to really think about it when you asked. Biggrin I think they just have very small sinuses and narrow eustacian tubes for their age.

Oh, and I did end up with pink eye. Boo! I caught it super early and started antibiotic drops this morning. I woke up for work and my eye didn't feel right. I have some issues with my eyes that I think are hormone-related, and I tend to pick up on infections pretty fast. So, the eye dr. said it was very mild because I caught it so early. In fact, only my left eye has an infection, but she wants me to treat both eyes, which makes perfect sense to me! Biggrin We shall see who else gets it in my family. We have been good with hand washing, well at least the three of us who can reach the sink. Lol

Anne- Thank you! I love our new house! We moved in on Friday, so now I'm just trying to get everything unpacked and organized. I'm so glad we don't have to move again anytime soon!

Melanie- I hope you are feeling better! Pink eye is awful!

Nicole- How are you feeling? Seeing all the moms that are having babies again is giving me a bit of baby fever, I will admit!

AFM- We're just unpacking and trying to get settled in the new house. We moved Sophia into her own room the day we moved in so we're trying to get her use to that too. She sleeps pretty well until she falls off the mattress onto the floor! (2 inches maybe?) She refuses to sleep in the crib though, so I'm not sure what to do to help her from falling off. We're also waiting to see if DBF got his promotion. I'm crossing my fingers that he did since that means he could get away from his useless boss and it would be a $15K raise. Goodness knows we could use the money!

Alisa- Yay for moving into the new house! Good luck getting Sophia used to sleeping on her own. I have no suggestions for keeping her on the mattress. Have you thought about a toddler bed? They usually have built in rails. It might work for her. That way she still feels free, unlike the crib, but you know she is safely tucked away in her bed.

We were a little late, but we finally bought breathable bumpers for Sarafina's crib. She got her leg stuck in btw the crib slats for the third time and that was enough for me. Hopefully, we will not have any other issues now that we have the bumper.

Mel- I wish you would have said you needed a breathable bumper - I would've sent you ours! We have a green one and a white one. The boys just push them down now and stick their feet through the slats anyway, so I took them off. But they were great before the boys could mess with them!

Alisa - Congrats on moving! I can't even imagine how much work it is to move into a house, just moving from apartment to duplex sapped my energy. How awesome though now to have a permanent place to live, somewhere you can really decorate and put your own mark on. I've got no sleeping tips either, aside from getting a toddler bed with rails like Melanie said.

AFM - Both boys currently have some upper respiratory goo. Their noses run like faucets and they are congested, and of course, Steve and I are starting to get it too. Blah. Last night was AWFUL, the boys screamed for three hours before they went to bed. We kept going in and trying to soothe them, then we'd leave them, then we'd go back in. It was a mess, akin to how it was when we were trying to get them to sleep through the night for the first time.
Pumping is going well, my milk still hasn't 'come in' yet, I'm only getting little bits, but that is normal during relactation. We'll see how it goes.
We also just found out that we'll be receiving help from Help Me Grow, it's a state program for kids with developmental delays. I gotta call the lady back, I'm assuming for us it will be some OT and some speech therapy probably.

That's it from here. When I'm done pumping, I'm going to go running for the first time in...years. Well at least one year (DBF will stay home with the napping boys). Let's hope I don't have a heart attack.

Thankfully Sarafina has not been messing with it yet. We only have it on the front of the crib and I pray we don't need to put it on the other side. If I knew you had the bumpers, I would have mentioned it! Bummer! I will probably just give ours to a friend who is due this summer.

I am sorry to hear the boys gave you such a rough time the other night. I hate it when the kids have sleep issues. I think that is the worst really. Sad Was last night better? I just keep counting down the days to warmer weather. As long as we stay healthy this summer, life will be grand. Well....at least life will be easier. Smile

I am still here! Fatigue is kicking my butt, and the all day nausea!!

Alisa- New house looks fantastic, had a peek on fb Biggrin Goodluck with DBF's possible job promotion. No sleeping tips here, taine is in a cot.

Melanie- Hope she doesn't find a way to get around the bumper, lol! Taine's only had a couple of mishaps with the slats.

Leah - Hope the boys have been better today. I love their cool dinosaur beanies! Hope the run was good.

A bit, and tonight was a bit better than that. Thank goodness. I think it's just the daylight savings time combined with the not being able to breathe through their noses, it just messes them all up. Gabe started crying hysterically today when I got out their bedtime books (it's the last thing I do before I leave and turn off the light). After I left their room, he only cried for about 10 minutes though before falling asleep. It was a gut wrenching 10 minutes for me though! I too hope we can all stay healthy this summer. Having sick babes just compounds everything - more work to take them out, if you can, they are more sensitive to everything.

Nicole - Glad to hear that you're hanging in there with all the first trimester blahs. Ugh that is one feeling I don't miss about pregnancy! But think, just as the weather starts getting cooler, you'll be feeling better.

We were able to get out again today, it was about 50 degrees here. Let the boys run around a bit in the morning, then in the afternoon I took them for a walk/jog in the stroller. I even stopped by my parents house (a few blocks away), so they got some good grandparent attention for a half hour or so. Tomorrow we have the Help Me Grow lady coming...I think the first visit is mostly her asking questions and paperwork. Then I work tomorrow and Thursday nights. Lame. Ugh I hate all the anxiety leading up to my work days, just knowing I will barely be able to sleep and that I am going to be exhausted. Oh well, just have to suck it up and get through it!

Nicole- I remember those first trimester yucks all too well. Just start counting down the weeks until the second trimester. I hope that you start feeling a little better soon.

Alisa- I have also seen the pics of your house on FB. Beautiful! I am jealous. Our house needs some work and we just have not had the time or energy to do it yet. This spring and summer, I am determined to get a project done here and there.

Leah- I am glad last night was better. Yes, those times when babies cry at bedtime are so tough. I ended up holding Keira for about a 1/2 hour last night. She wasn't settling down and seems to just need a cuddle on occasion. She fell right asleep and transitioned back to her crib without an issue. I hate to do that, but I have only had to do it twice. She has an ear infection and even with antibiotics, I think it is still bugging her a little. I get so few cuddles out of my girls that I gave in. Biggrin

Yay for the run/walk. We need to get out more. It just is so muddy here. DS keeps asking to go to the park, but with his sisters, I need an extra set of hands. I need to find a Mommy's Helper, I think. Someone who can come in once a week and go with me to the park, etc. That would be nice. I doubt it will happen since we pay for a helper/nanny in the summer.

Best of luck with the referral to Help Me Grow. Let us know what they say. It seems like your boys are doing pretty well. I know you haven't had much language, but they have been so focused on physical milestones, that their language may just take off. However, a little boost from early intervention is a great thing. We may be headed back there with Sarafina if she does not start walking soon. She seems so strong, but she seems off balance. So, if she is not walking by June, we will be referred to First Steps again for PT. Honestly, if she is not walking, I am all for it because I have no clue what else to do for her. It makes me sad for her though. I am afraid other milestones will lag because she is behind with walking.

AFM- Keira is finally getting braver and taking more steps. They still aren't much, but it is progress. I am excited for her. I am getting ready to start spring break next week. A whole week off. Woot! I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but I am hoping to do something fun with the girls on at least one day. Maybe head to the zoo or something.
